I Need The 2 Front Sun Visors For A Mk1

Hello, everyone. as you probably know I bought a Gal about a week back & I have been tidying it up a little. In amongst my list, I need both front sun visor flaps. What I need to know is, am I right in thinking the VW and Seat ones are the same fitment as the Ford ones? :lol:

 

I have been lurking around a few scrappies and haven't managed to find any. I've only had the Galaxy a week and I really like it. I don't know why, but there's just something about it. :lol:

As far as I can see they are the same, the only difference I have come across is that the retaining clip at the none swiveling end can differ from model to model, yet the visors still fit into it, last time I went into the breakers near me they had a Alhambra with some still in it! where are you located?

Warwickshire, was up your way today, at the Warwickshire display center, went to see the model railway show, I know doesnt sound like my thing? but for some reason my eldest girl loves trains :D so now I can expect constant nagging of Can we have one? can we pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaseeeeeeeee? :D

anyway back onto sunvisors :D the breakers is in Daventry, Interpart just outside Daventry on the A45, depending on where in Warwickshire you are its not to far away?

if I'm over that way this week I'll pop in and see if they have any still in stock? but I think my work is all the wrong side of the M6 this week :D

Well I live pretty close to the A45 as I live very near to the A46. Daventry is just about 30 minute drive down the M40. Ok if you could check 2 see if they are still there, then I would really appreciate your help.

No, on the Northampton Road in Daventry. If you are coming from Staverton direction you turn right at the first big roundabout, straight over the second and it is on the right just after the Murco filling station.

I had a look on the Intapart web site and made a parts enquiry about exactly the same thing - The reply was that they don't have a pair of sun visors despite the fact that their current breaking list includes:

 

1 Galaxy (new arrival)

4 Alhambras

4 Sharans

 

and a partridge in a pear tree!

 

I don't know if they are fobbing me off because I asked them for a delivered price (Manchester is a bit of a distance from Daventry :lol: ). If anybody is local is going there and can check for a decent set I would appreciate their help :lol:

 

I would like to know a price as well - how much should I expect to pay a scrappie for a pair of Shalambraxy sun visors?

Ignore the stock list! they dont have much idea of what they do have, especially if I have been over there :lol: I just tell them what I'm looking for and they let me loose :D it may take a bit of searching through out the stock but I can usually find what I want and a bit more :lol:

I too have phoned them, the sales people are only interested in major components that have been removed and sat on the shelf.

I was there last week and the Shalaxies they have in are in a right state. :(

 

You need to be careful as they promised me a part was on site, drove from Brum. guess what, they hadn't got one, 2 hours wasted. :angry:

The next guy in the queue had come from Leeds on a promise of a part for his Alfa only to find they hadn't got that after all either. So be careful with there promises if travelling a fair way. :angry:

 

It sure is depressing to see so many good spare parts going to waste usually because of the lack of cover from the elements.

All the seats trim etc ruined on most of them. Most are full of bits from other vehicles.

 

I guess that they never make much profit from interior trim as all scrap yards let the cars inners rot.

 

I was at another yard last week asked the guy in charge if they had any Mk1 Galaxies he said he had one had a burnt out one, had a look round they had 6 altogether again all full of water and in a sorry state.

 

Is it just me? but I feel you could make some money out of breaking them properly, storing them and getting a name for any Galaxy/Sharan readily available spares off the shelf in good nick.

 

I would be interested in anyones opinion.

Yeah Greg that is is a good idea because people like me with Gals that are a bit old, need some bits and bobs. Because the vehicle is of a very practical nature, I think it would be fairly common for interior parts to be fixed/changed, etc.. Hmm, Im also lookin for that chrome surround thats at the back on the ghias, around the number plate area. hehehe I should have just bought a ghia... :angry:

Chrome :( Nah you want to go dark, match the tint :angry: swap out the rear panel for a darkened sharan version but keep the galaxy rear lights as they have darkened indicator lenses :angry:

vr6, hmm that's not a bad idea... I'm also thinkin about a dual tail pipe at the back because the bumper has like a curved cut. I'll take some pics and experiment in photoshop.. But after getting limo black tint at the back, it is pretty hard reversing at night, but I suppose if I had a van, it would have been the same situation. Those seat socket covers I ordered from that bloke on ebay haven't arrived yet, but I need to 4 more I have 5 seats at the back.. Time to goto the VW parts dpt..

Big bore exhaust :D I have one in it's box on the shelf in the garage along with the rear spoiler that I can no longer fit as I have a bike carrier now :D

you dont have to go to dark with the tint! there is a picture on here of a Galaxy (purple perils?) with tinted glass and the red reflective panel and it's just to much RED :D stareing back at you :D it needs toneing down a touch :D

Ok I managed to take a few pics today. If anyone wants to know what limo black would look like on the Gal, check the pics out. The HIDs are fitted, but I'm not too sure if the pattern is correct. The passenger side is more sharper than the drivers side. I'll have to check that tomorrow. I'm still gonna goto that Intapart place and see what they have got.

 

Any ideas on some alloys? I suppose I would prefer 17's as 18" tyres are over my budget.. Anyway, here are the pics:

Maglite - if your mate's mate is breaking his Gal, then I would be very interested to buy that rear tailgate light panel from him if you don't want it. (Perhaps you could email me his contact details?) I am not bothered about the chrome bit either way - mine is just standard. I have been searching the online breakers for ages but no luck. Mine's busted in opposite corners.

djacks, ok I went to check out that galaxy & it was in a right state. It had been rear ended and bought back from the insurance company after a right-off. I did manage to nab the visors off it! hehehe.. both vanity ones. I was going to nab the alloys but obviously the guy wasn't gonna let them go for peanuts.. I checked the rear light cluster and it has been cracked in various places with the plastic missing. It's a ghia too. Well the guys just simply going to break it for parts and flog them on ebay. I didn't bother with the alloys in the end. Just thought I'd save the cash for some 17's.

Maglite - his ebay link says it's in v good condition with no cracks or damage - which is why I bid on it. I should have read this first, but are you saying it's cracked all over?

yep the whole middle part of the part has been pushed in and cracked in various places. A Merc Sprinter went into the back of it. That ebay link is someone else selling the part.
