I have a Mk2 Galaxy.

When you switch off there is a motor or pump that runs for about 15 minutes. I've read on this forum that it may be to do with preventing hot spots on the engine.

I have noticed over the past couple of days that this motor/pump is making a little more noise than usual.

Could someone tell me:-

What its' for.

Where is it.

Is it making a little more noise than usual something to worry about.

Thank you.

i am also :D ;) ;) ,on all the strange sounds mine makes. yes i know about the auxiliary heater making a 'jet' sound, but i also get sounds from the front of the car (no, i don't mean the engine - for you sarcastic ones out there) when i turn the engine off, i get a strange sound, and when i remove the key, another sound starts up. i just think, 'what the hell is going on under there? ;) '

if anyone knows what all these noises are, i would like to find out

After switching off, the noise you hear is an electric water pump that ensures no hotrspots in the engine and also ensures that the turbo bearings are kept cool so that the oil isn't carbonised - turbos run very fast (over 100,000 rpm) and the bearings get very hot !

Not sure where it is on the 2.3 but the unit your looking for is round canister with electrical connections on its top and a couple of small 1'' water hoses to it, its held in place by a rubber mounting

on the VR6 it's located on the right hand rear corner of the engine, may be ain a similar location on the 2.3?
