Steven.Langdale Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Hello all I'm going to look at a 2000 Galaxy 2.3 Ghia Auto this weekend. It's got quite a high mileage (77,000) but does have a full service history. The only bit I'm unsure about is the auto box. I can't really get a good handle on wether the auto box is a good one in the Gal. I can obviously get a reasonable idea of the box by taking it for a test drive, but if I'm correct, I can't check the Tranmission fluid to see if its still nice and clean and not burnt or bitty. Is that correct? What are your thoughts? I dont plan on putting many miles on the thing, about 4-5K a year. The rest of the car is immaculate inside and out. it's just the auto box I'm not sure about ... The Seller is looking for about Quote
GSMGuy Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Right... Galaxy auto box is made by Jatco (Japananese Auto Transmission CO)So you'd think it was reliable???? Nope... Just had a full recon box and torque converter in my 2002 Tdi 115, costing Quote
Andrew T Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 Not sure that the 2.3 uses the Jatco box ? It's a 4-speed unit rather than the 5-speed used on the TDI and V6, and could well be bought in from another source. There should be no worries with the 2.3 engine at 77K with FSH. Quote
Guest grumpy one Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 A word of advice, the fuel consumption is dire,a v6 is better on fuel! Also, depreciation is the worst of all the Galaxys, hence Quote
Dally Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Having had a 2002 model 2.3 and my current v6, I would say that the fuel ueage on the 2.3 was not bad at all in comparison to my v6. Quote

GSMGuy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 It's a Jatco box on the 2.3 and the .8 as well as the Tdi, 4 or 5 speed. Mike Quote
