eupho Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 I have had my 1997 V6 for a few months and am generally very pleased.Petrol consumpyion is better than I expected although I do seem to be using a bit of oil.I would appreciate help with the following. The horn buttons have now both come off...the second one simply by catching my finger on it in an emergency situation ! I cannot really see how these can be easily replaced as they seem integral with the plastic of the wheel.Windows! I have on a couple of occasions come back to the vehicle only to find the electric front windows have opened!!The car still has a gas tank fitted in the spare wheel position. Clearly this means the spare has to sit in the vehicle. In order to site it back where it belongs I assume some mounting must have been removed...any advice on where I might obtain whatever is missing !! (sounds a bit vague!)...is the tank of secondhand worth ?Finally, the Haynes manual does not cover the V6...does anyone elses or can I purchase a Ford official one.In anticipation of some responses, thank you very much. Masked Marauder Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 Horn buttons can be changed, don't know how, but I have seen them for sale Windows. Check for damp under the front passenger seat. If you find some do a search on damp foot well. Spare Wheel. This is fitted to a winch which winds the wheel up and locks it under the car, look for a semi-circular flap in the carpet in the back of the car. If you see a wheel-bolt sized nut, thats the winch. The manual issue. The engine is the same as the VR6 Golf. Or you can "acquire" a copy of the Ford TIS DVD and all you need is on there. Quote

Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Spare Wheel. This is fitted to a winch which winds the wheel up and locks it under the car, look for a semi-circular flap in the carpet in the back of the car. If you see a wheel-bolt sized nut, thats the winch. If you have a gas tank under the rear, you won't have the bolt head under the flap - it is part of the winch mechanism which is easy to fit. Check that the gas tank has been isolated, then you can have it safely removed. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 I did not know if the winch would still be there or not so offered a simple way to find out! If I had an LPG tank under my boot I would be wondering how much it would cost to have the rest of the system fitted, not how to remove it! Quote
