I am interested to find out what level of window tinting other members have fitted in their vehicles - I am considering getting mine done as I have no aircon. I have found this company - Tint Express - who make pre-cut tints to manufacturer window sizes. If anybody knows much about this, I'd be interested to hear more.

NOTE: I am only planning on tinting the rear windows (ie. those behind driver) and I understand that these are not covered by light transmission legislation - I just want advice from those who have already done the tinting (some pictures might be nice too  )

Mine is factory std, not an option on your list (don't know what it is).

Hello all, as you probably know, I have just bought a Gal and I'm going to be getting in Tinted on Tuesday. I know of 2 companies who can do tinting at a good prices.

The 1st is a company called

Turbo Screens

Unit 6,

St. Pauls Rd,

Birmingham,

West Midlands

B12 8NG

0121 446 5066

This is what I was quoted. Front 2 windows & the small triangular one (not legal) 35%

after post B (behind the front seats) Limo black 5%

Mine are a combination job :D the rear five are blacked out and the front two are UV reflective with a slight green tinge to them

I've got to ask. Why would you want the windows tinted?

Mine are just the standard, come with the car, tinted. They seem to work well and I have no desire to add to them.

My windows have no tint whatsoever - and no aircon!!! I haven't had it through a hot summer yet (hopefully this year :D ) but I'm told that tinting can reduce the heat transmission through the windows by up to 74%

I have aircon and it still gets bloody hot at times.

If you look at getting tints, remember that the front side windows and windscreen must not have a stick-on tint and it must allow at least 75% of the light through the tint.

I'm only planning to do the windows behind the B Post - I don't want to open that can of worms

There is no other way of fitting an after market tint apart from applying a film, and it can be fitted to the front side windows as long as it allows the correct level of light through!

You can see my tints here :D

As you can see the front 2 windows are tinted. I only drive my Galaxy on private land, so if you are driving on a public road be aware that the front 2 windows have to let in 75% of light. Otherwise Mr PC Plod will stop you and pull out his light meter to check the level of light.

No, any stick on tint is now not legal. There is currently a sympathetic approach to enforcement to allow for existing stick on tinting films and that is the 75% transmission rule, but technically any stick on tint is illegal and it is an offence against Section 75 of the 1988 Road Traffic Act with reference to Section 41 (as amended)

I got mine tinted last night by that mobile chap I mentioned earlier. Nice little business he's got going there actually. He's done a lovely job (door trim off etc) and it's really makes a difference. Med-smoke on fronts and dark smokes on rears. I know the frt's are just over legal, but I don't see the point of the lgt smoke.

I see cars that are out the factory with windows that simply can not be legal. How they are getting round the Type Approval regulations I have no ideal!

I have worked with VOSA on tints (yes im a copper) And in kent we do mant stops. what i find most is that when the car leaves the factory they have the full tint allowed (70% front 75% windowscreen) and people get these firms to put on a legal tint. What they dont know is that adding a tint on a tint breaks the limits.

Any person private or big dealer is breaking the law if they sell you a car with the incorrect tint limits i know VOSA do spot checks on dealers here.

Also dont forget if you are in an accident and your insurance company find out you have dark tints they will say " sorry your not covered" even if its not your fault so be warned.

Soon to be a 3pt offence too  Most they do at mo is get you to rip the tints off there and then or give you 10 days to do it and take it to VOSA to check. They will let you drive it home (windows open) and to VOSA for the check but thats it.

Go for it Pineappleman. B)

Any chance of a crackdown on illegal numberplates as well?

Just noted the dates. This must be a remote backwater in the site or I've go too much time on my hands.
