Guest gavc_uk Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 I am looking at buying a load cover from a 96 Gal to put in my 02 Zetec. Does anyone know if there are any issues with them fitting the newer models. My guess is that it will be ok but would appreciate anyone confirming either way. Thanks, Gavin Quote
requiem mortis Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 I too would like and answer to this question...anyone ? Quote
requiem mortis Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...amp;#entry13389 Found The Answer Here Sorry about the two link attempts but not sure how to use the insert post link Quoting here too by 'sh55123' "Successfully managed to fit a genuine 2003 sharan load cover to my 1996 vr6 carat! Useful info to know that the covers do not appear to have changed even thouugh the 'new' shalaxy has undergone quite a number of changes." Quote
requiem mortis Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 But now I'm worried well done looks real good i haven't got the b*llocks to start cutting bits of my car out. Cutting the bits out is the easy part, the cut-outs are marked in dotted lines on the back of the panels. Getting the panels off is the time consuming bit. Oh and also..dont think anyone has mentioned there are 2 different types of Load cover one for Galaxys with rear heaters and one for those without rear heaters.....they are different lengths and the nearside rear bracket is different. The vast majority are for the Gals with rear heaters.....if you dont have a rear heater be careful ! Quote
requiem mortis Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 There is so much stuff posted on the issue of retrofitting tonneau covers searching and collating the information is a real pain. this would be a prime candidate for someone to create a difinitive post and make it a sticky. Any volunteers ? Sorry to ask but I'm still getting to grips with the forum. Quote
mumof4 Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 you are asking for volunteers?to collect all the info about load covers and stick it in one place?. Its what search is there for.Yes its a pain but weve all done it..try looking in the FAQs..see if there is anything in there. Marian. Admin and Moderation Team. Quote
big_kev Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 This may help....ripped it from some German site....hence beware some items may be wrong hand drive.....and translations may be iffy. Page 18 look for the Abdeckrollo......there appears to be one version for the MK1 with rear heater/aircon.....and several for the MK2 with and without rear heater/aircon... Will get more info on the lengths of these but the VW part numbers should help. parts.rtf Lots of other useful parts info in there as well Quote
big_kev Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 (edited) A link to a german site http://66.249.91.104/translate_c?hl=en&...d3e0dbb720376d7 you may have to cut and paste this and translate it using google or similar Edited April 13, 2007 by big_kev Quote
big_kev Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Oh yeh I am assuming that everyone has registered at www.vagcat.com then ? Quote
Guest wolfie Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 I'm struggling to find any difference in the load covers for vehicles with or without secondary heaters or dual ac! all my parts listing state the same number for the rear quarter panels and state that the panels need work shop adaption for vehicles with secondary heater ......... etc and then list the required vents, seat belt guide and plugs that are needed in the parts listing ;) even my 95 Galaxy parts book shows nothing! but then it wouldnt as the original load cover was a hard plastic folding afair  and wasnt available till a while later Quote
big_kev Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 The one for the Gals with rear heaters is 1293mm long the one for the Gals without rear heaters if about 5mm longer. If you do not have a rear heater then you can fit either although the short one will be a bit loose. If you have rear heater ( as the vast majority of gals do ) then you need the shorter one. However the longer one is quite rare. I would suggest going to vagcat.com and looking at the covers for the MK1's and the MK2's Quote

requiem mortis Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Job Done ! Got the tonneau cover from ebay, parts from a cousin who works for ford 15 % discount (would have been cheaper to go to vw :o .... hey ho ). Some Notes. There is no need to dismount the tops of the seat belts - Unless you want to remove the panels completely from the vehicle I didn't and used a craft knife to cut the holes in situ once I could see the markings on the back - take care when cutting so as not to mark the fabric on the front remove the waste. The board is stuck to a foam backing on the back of the material, the foam backing comes away from the fabric with a bit of persuasion, then cut the fabric about an inch inside the hole that way you get a nice finish when the external trim/bracket is fitted. You don't need to fully remove C & D post trims just loosen the bottoms and take care when 'lifting' the panel to remove..see note above You do not need to remove the weather seals from around the doors/windows !. Watch out when replacing the D post trim the captive clip backs have a habit of disappearing behind the metal work with no hope of retrieval....... rubber trim holds it in place quite happily without tho ^_^. colin Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Hi,I have just come accross the diagrams in this posting. Is there any chance of posting a diagram of the drivers seat belt pillar with removal instructions? My cover (with electric gizzmos behind - alarm sensor?) has come loose and I think I heard some plastic part drop down as I tried to push it back in place. Normally the rubber surrounds would hold the cover in place but my cover has a press stud screwed to it to hold a curtain! (it is a VW Sharan with a Wheelhome Millenium campervan conversion). I am wondering if I could put in a screw into the head lining hidden by the rubber surround (unless there are wires behind it). ThanksColin Quote
