Galaxy 2litre Petrol, P-reg

Hi all i"m new to the forum and just bought a p-reg galaxy so thought i best join the owners forum. Picked the vehicle up last sat and everything seems ok and drives well, now for the problem, as i change up the gears from 1 to 3 inclusive theres a noise that i think comes from the gearbox but then when i reach a speed that takes me into 4th and 5th gear the noise doesn"t happen, it makes the noise in a straight line as well as going round corners but again only from 1st to 3rd incl, a friend at work rekons it could be low on gearbox oil but i haven"t checked that yet, your knowledge and experience on this is much valued and i thank you all in advance, mark.

Just come back from a gearbox specialist and he told me the problem was the bearings are nackered, therefore this was his breakdown for repairs.

Is the cost to overhaul dependent on what parts actually get changed? How does it compare on price with a "genuine" exchange reconditioned box? - and it is wise to have the clutch changed at the same time, unless it looks like it was only recently changed.
