sanjsanj Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 (edited) The light you're meant to look at, is the red one on the drivers window sill. It usually flashes when the car is locked and the alarm is activated & also comes on for about 5 seconds when starting the gal. The next time this problem occurs, look at that light and see if it flashes. P.S Welcome to the forum! Edited October 26, 2007 by sanjsanj Quote
NikpV Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Hi All New member here..... I have a 2005 (55 reg) Ford Galaxy 2.0 Ghia Tdi. The last few weeks ive been having problems with it starting, I get in the car it starts ok then after leaving it for about 15 mins i can get back in it and it just turns over and makes no effort to start. I have had it back to the garage and they keep telling me its the fuel relay thats faulty cos it has been moving in the housing..... in the end the garage have tied a cable tie round the relay and the fuse box. It seemed to work until today when i found myself stranded in the middle of town with a car that wouldnt start. This has happened to me on numerous occasions and our local Ford dealer says that they honestly dont know whats wrong with it.I dont think its the immobiliser as the light does not flash on the dashboard. I have spoken to somebody who said they had the same problem and they were also diagnosed with the fuel relay fault only theirs turned out to be a fault in the Brain. Does anybody have any ideas what this problem is? surely - unless its a import or has done more than 60k miles then its in warranty so get the dealer to sort it  as sanjsanj says check the flashing led - BTW I didnt think they did a 2.0 - 1.9 Tdi Quote
English Rose Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 sorry my mistake... its a 1.9 150bhp (getting it mixed up with my other car). It is still under warranty but the garage dont seem to be able to fix it. All they keep telling me is that the fuel relay is faulty, when they change it, it works alright for a few days then it starts again. Im just a bit concerned that they are fobbing me off until the warranty runs out then ill be stuck. Thats why im trying to get as much information as i can. Quote
Saif Rehman Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 (edited) Since the car is still under warranty, i would fire off a letter to the service department stating that you wish that the car to be repaired and give them a time scale, say a week. Log everything including how many times the car has been in, what was done, how long before problem returned and keep all paperwork. You must insist that the problem be sorted once and for all. I would not call using a cable tie to secure anything electrical as satisfactory or safe. Edited October 26, 2007 by Saif Rehman Quote
English Rose Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Many thanks for that.. I will do it first thing on monday morning and see if i get any satisfaction. I will let you know the outcome Quote
English Rose Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 Hi Folks Just an update.... took the car back to the garage and told them i wanted it fixed and that tying the fuel relay with a cable tie was not satisfactory. After leaving it with them for 2 more days I finially got it back.. They have replaced the fuel relay with a new one (no cable tie either) and Hey presto.... It starts. So.. so far, so good! Quote
Saif Rehman Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Excellent news! Never take 'no' or 'we can't find out what the problem is' as a answer. As a person who has had a variety of jobs including a car salesman, i have dealt with people all my working life and it pays dividends for the consumer to be a little bit more assertive in getting things done right.
