VeeDub Nutter Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Has anyone fitted the electric motors to the rear pop out windows?Any info would be appreciated, as its the next job on my upgrade list after completion of cruise control. B) Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 I looked into it but forgot about it! unless yours has the loom in place for the motors or you are going to build your own loom? the loom from what I can see is not an add on job like the heated front screen or heated seats B) which come as a seperate item, plus you will need the windows as they have different fixing on them for the linkage to the motor and the D post trim panels will have to be replaced to hide the motors good luck if you go for it and let us know how you get on? VeeDub Nutter Posted April 18, 2005 Author Report Posted April 18, 2005 Thanks for the info'.I didn't realise i'd be needing new glass as well, might not bother any more, but if i do i'll be in touch.By the way the loom appears to be already there! Quote
VeeDub Nutter Posted December 6, 2005 Author Report Posted December 6, 2005 I've done it! at last.It was quite easy really, you do not need to change the glass.First remove seatbelt retaining bolts, then 'D' post covers. The loom was already in place, so I changed the manual window catches for the motors. Unscrewed the catches from the windows (1 screw) and attached the motor arms.Next connect the looms, they will only fit 1 way round.Had to fit different pillar covers, to cover the motors, but they just snap into place.Next i fitted the switch in the dash & plugged in the loom.Hey Presto! job done. time teken - about an hour. Just for reference: I bought the parts from a breakers, They were fitted to a 2002 model (mk2) but they are the same part numbers as fitted to the mk1. except the switch which i bought from the vw dealer. Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 OOOPS B) I should really alter my original post! B) I,ve done also :P it was while looking around a breakers yard that I came across a set of the motors still in place minus the glass that changed my mind that it could be done :) the only thing I havent done to mine is to link them into the global closure system yet! I know how to, it's just a case of finding the correct wire that grounds out the motors and allows them to operate and close on command  Quote
VeeDub Nutter Posted December 6, 2005 Author Report Posted December 6, 2005 When you find it, do tell. global closure, is that part of the standard central locking / alarm system?cos i've not really noticed that! Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 global closure.... open the windows, sunroof and then lock the car via the key in the lock, hold it in the locking position and the windows etc should all close? then unlock the doors and hold the key in the unlocking position and they should all open? this also works via the remote on some models? if your rear pop outs were prewired then they should already be linked into the system! mine were not B) so I had to run cables back to the motors and to the switch, pin 6 off the switch should go to the global closure relay K150 pin 4 but as I cant find it :) this wire is shorted to ground and allows the windows to open and shut, without this wire grounded the windows will open but not shut! the relay provides a timed ground connection when you operate the closure system shutting the windows, when I get time or feel like I'll sort it out ...... eventually  Quote
bigdaddy Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 My pop out windows are fitted as standard and they do no work with global closure,,,,,,, vr6galaxy,,,,,whats the wire i need to ground,,,,,cheers Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 According to my info its pin 6 off the back of the switch that goes to the global relay, if pin isnt connected then the windows will open but not shut! the fact that yours do shut mean that it is connected to ground either directly or via the global closure relay? my info is for a Mk1 and at present I cant find my TIS so I cant check for the Mk2 B) Quote
Rallim Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Ooohh, I got all excited there, thought I could do that, I would like to have electrically operated flappy window things at the back.... so with eagerness I braved the dark raind and cold and prized a look underneath the rear pillar, but it would appear unlike the mk1 the mk2's do not have the wiring connectors as standard B) bummer, but then it should be of little surprise as it was the same for... fog lamps... tow bar electrics.... cruise control... I'm sure the job must be possible to retrofit to a Mk2 Shalaxy but it requires a bit more work running wires.... Gordon. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Mine didnt have the wiring either! I made up my own loom (two core flex) to the rear windows and used some singles for the feeds to the switch and fuse board B) it's not that hard to do  the motor connections are push on crimps that I borrowed from work! and the switch plug came from a local breakers! they didnt know I had that away :) Quote
Justice Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I find the rear electric windows a pain, if I leave my dog in the car I like to leave a window open but as soon as I lock the car the bloody things close unless I am realy quick with the key, plus the fact I have to lock twice to disarm the sensors so the dog dos'nt set the alarm off. When I press and hold the unlock button or use the key in the door I don't think the quarters open just the 4 doors and sun roof. Quote
Rallim Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Oh B), I'll put aside my 'mk1 wiring loom envy' and be more positive. Just need to find a decent breakers... Where are the switches for the mk1 located, on the centre console next to the gearstick? Gordon. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 The switches are located to the left of the radio, on the Mk1 there are four double switch mounting holes, front and rear heated screen, rear pop outs, rear passenger door windows and heated seats, also one single round switch for the rear heater Quote
Rallim Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 aaaahh yes, the mk1 dash layout is coming back to me, my mind went blank even though I did look at a number of mk1 galaxy / sharan's before buying mine. The mk2 is on the centre console next to the gearstick. I've just checked ekta and the centre console cover with the switch cutouts is ~ Quote
