Boot Electrical Problems

I own a 96 LHD galaxy 2.0i and until recently, could lock the car from turning the key in the boot lock (after unloading car and too lazy to walk round to front door!). But now when I try to lock the car from there, it doesnt lock but the rear wiper comes on as does the rear fog lamps!! The rear fog lamps and number plate lights also dont work anymore when the car is in normal use - only the fogs when attempting to lock as described above.

I know it sounds like a short but nothing is apparent when I looked the other day.

 

Any ideas???

Fractured earth cable perhaps, then power is earthing through the other kit causing it to work.
