Guest joetankn Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 I am looking at buying a 2 years old 2.3 Galaxy, not sure of the model, but it runs on petrol. However, after reading the reviews at http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews191.html, kind of put me off. They descript Galaxy as problematic, petrol hungry and a car to avoid. Any true? Quote
Guest Scott Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Had ours 3 years now & love it. Does only give 24 to the gallon though if that's a problem (this seems to be however you load or drive it!) ~ Scott Quote
potterer Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 I was advised to look for the diesel, more economic? Have had no problems in four years, and get on a long run in region of 600 miles per tank.Go for diesel if you can. Quote
GSMGuy Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 First off, I'd say the Gal is much more capable than a Zafire, all the Gal's seats are full size, and robust - not like the folding things in the Zafira, also, with all the seats in use, the legroom and luggage space in the Gal is much better... Would never go for a petrol one though... Mike Quote
Guest rossmale Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 I brought mine as a '2 year old' (back in 2001) and have driven it round France (3 times) and Italy and never once has it broken down. I do have it serviced regulary but apart from that it's been a dream purchase Quote
Guest grumpy one Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Just don't buy a 2.3 auto, we had one for just over a year, even tried towing our new caravan with it !!!!! All I will say is lovely car to drive solo, smooth, reasonably quick, but if you thought a v6 was heavy on fuel....round town:15- 20mpg :( on a long run: 23-25mpg :( towing an 1150 kg caravan to Scotland:13-15 mpg!! yoikes B) Get a diesel you know it makes sense B) Quote
Guest grumpy one Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 GSM guy, just noticed your motor has been chipped, whats it go like mister?? Quote
Guest bosbax Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Just do it! You should be able to get a low mileage late model 2.3 without having to pay the premium price that you are charged for a deisel.10k should buy you a sub 20,000 mile top speck car. There is a huge choice, and with the money saved get it converted to run on LPG approx Quote
Guest grumpy one Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Where does the spare wheel go? :( Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Where does the spare wheel go? :( In the garage with all the other junk you dont use :( Quote
Guest bosbax Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 You can either use a tyre treatment which prevents most punctures from completely dissabling you or just carry the spare wheel in the back(dependent on your seat layout). Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 or replace all your corners with 'run-flat' tyres matt Quote
Guest bosbax Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Yeah, but it,s only the bottom bit that's flat. Quote
greg_68 Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Hi all,I had my MAF changed two weeks ago and thought my mpg had improved, went on a 100 mile round trip yesterday and got 29 mpg which i didn't think was too bad for a V6.If in the future I am tempted to the dark side could the diesel peeps tell me what the best mpg they would be likely to see on a 100 mile trip on the motorway. Cheers, Greg. p.s would have an LPG but I only go to work and back (6 miles). Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 ... could the diesel peeps tell me what the best mpg they would be likely to see on a 100 mile trip on the motorway. 50 mpg :D Quote
