norwichbluenose Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 My newish gal(1.9 tdi 01) Mk2 has an annoying whistle. It only happens between 50 and 70ish and seems to be comming from the top of the bonnet. I have tried running without windscreen wipers to eliminate these still whistles, I wouldn't mind buts its not even a tune you could get to like. Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 could be something caught in the engine bay or rad grill,i:e piece of plastic, treebranch with leaves causing a whistle at speed.I had this once on the m25 and it was an old tesco carrier bag caught in the grill Quote
rwtomkins Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 My guess is it's the plastic grill at the bottom of the windscreen. This is well know as a source of noises, often including a banging or rattling sound at higher speeds. Mine's been whistling since I last took the Gal in for a service, presumably because they removed the grill to change the pollen filter. Usual cure is just to give it a thump. Quote
