Hi people, I have just taken ownership of a Galaxy (moved up from an M3) but am a bit miffed with the standard audio. I have changed the head unit and have better door speakers, subs, cables and an amp to fit.

Can anyone tell me an easy way to fit some 8 gauge power cable from the battery to the "boot"(behind back seats) for my 400 watt amp? There doesn't seem to be much room under the bonnet or any obvious cable runs through to the dashboard. Thanks, Wonkydog.

As Dave says removal of the glove box or the fuse panel will give you access to a few grommets that lead into the engine bay, then you can run the cables behind the kick panels before the A posts and then down either side under the trim panels next to the doors, from these you can gain access to the cubby holes under the front seats or the rear quarter panels and finally to the storage bins there B)

remember to seal the gromits after you poke the cable through as you dont want any water to get in and soak into the soundproofing under the carpets

Thanks for the advice, but, after dismantling half the dashboard I still couldn't find a suitable route. B)

But I have found an alternative solution. Can't wait to hear my new speakers.

I passed my power cable through possibly the grommett being referred to. There is no need to remove any dash component.

If you sit in the front passenger seat with your feet up against the bulkhead (under the glovebox) it's about under where your left foot rests. Lift the carpet at that point and have a look.

Ok, I'll try again. Wow, what a pig of a job changing the front door speakers and cable was.

Taking the door trim of was easy, but feeding the new cable through the door hinge disconnect plug was a nightmare. I had to melt a new hole big enough for the speaker cable with a soldering iron in an unused part of the plug.

Still, I have put the signal cable to the amp in, just the rear speakers to go.

And the amp wiring, and the subs, and the false floor to cover the amp and crossover! :o

Joy oh joy! :D :D :D :D

After a break from working on the car, I got my head under the dash today and found a suitable grommit and have put the power cable through to the boot. That's the good news, the other news is I want a second amp! Thanks for your help people.

Hello, I was messing about trying to fit some 4 AWG cable today and I know this may sound dumb, but I can't find that gromit under the glove box. I'll take a pic, and maybe someone can point it out :P

hehehe sorry for being so cheeky it's just that I don't want to mess anything up

Thanks

Wonkydog, is yours a Mk2? How did ya get the door trims off? Removed the handle/switches etc, but don't want to pull too hard in case I break something..

Hi, don't know what Mk number my car is (it's an R reg) but the door trim is tough to take off. If the trim from around the door release handle is out and the securing screw that is visible when that trim is off has been unscrewed, then its just a case of levering the door trim off the clips.

They are VERY tight, don't try with your fingers-it will hurt! Start in the front bottom corner with a wide bladed screwdriver with a bit of cardboard to protect the door paintwork. when you lift the trim away far enough, slide a wide (2") piece of wood, say 4-5 mm thick under the trim then use that to work along the edge of the trim popping out the clips.

Some of the clips will stay in the door trim, some will stay in the door metalwork. Once all the clips are undone (there are none along the top edge, that is held in by the window pane) pull the trim up and away from the door.

Once the trim is off any clips left in the door will have to be prised from the door and put in place behind the trim before refitment of the trim. One or two clip holes in the door trim may snap but hopefully there should be enough left to secure the trim back in place.

Hope this helps, by the way, got all the speakers, subs, crossover and amps all up and running now- sounds awesome! :P

hey guys your making hard work of this grommet the easy way is remove the pollen filter tray [the big bugger that covers the wiper arm ] 3 10mm nuts then pull, after that look at the bulk head and just like magic 2 grommets one large sod and one little one idea for any uses including alarm amps or if your galaxy is unfortunate all those taxi wiring :o

so there you have it so simple i did it

But be carefull as opening more holes up in this area and not sealing them properly afterwards can lead to water ingress! if your scuttle drains block!

those two gromets i am on about are the only two on the passange side of the bulk head but i is always wise to seal up any forced entry so to speak

Hello, I spent Sunday morning sorting out the amp installation kit. Finally hooked up the RCA's and the remote wire to my amp, and WOWE! My gal sounds like a CLUB!! LOL  Oh my god, the acoustics of the Gal are just amazing. Tomorrow I'm gonna change the door speakers when I get a chance. I've put a power cap in that compartment at the back where the jack is. It should be alright there. With a little fiddling, I managed to find the correct grommit under the passenger side.

Thanks guys

Well I haven't taken off the grill for the speakers on the doors yet, but I'm thinking about getting 2 sets of Infinity 652.5i's. It's a 165mm speaker with a built in tweeter. Can cope with 75 W RMS. The thing is I'm going to have to see if there is enough room for the magnet, etc.. but I'll let you know what I used.

I don't fancy your chances with fitting them - Infinity speakers are very deep. Let us know how you get on.

(WRT mounting depth - I think anything deeper that 50mm is likely to need some spacers to fit)

:o also very tinny as infinity like to be used with subs :D so would advise some thing along the hifonics or kenwood or pioneer route

but again thats down to the type of music you listen to :D

just changed 4 in the doors of 2 galaxys last week one guy went for hifonics and the other bloke went for maystar neo magnet jobbies both sounded good

soi think it down to you own choice as i put big buggers in with solid spacers and mounted mine on the outside of the door card as i went for over deep components :D  cant see for the base lol

Hi longone

I have not got any pictures, but the best way to get the cable to the back is from the battery follow the chassis leg, and take

the cable along the chassis to the back and fixing with cable ties.
