1 the mfd unit seems bigger than the slot for the stereo? how will it fit?

2 do i need special loom to connect the unit to the existing stereo

3 is the speed pulse present on the iso plugs

4 will the exisitng ford cd changer work with the new mfd?

thanks so much for your help

Jakey247 is the expert on this, but I know that you need a different centre console "centre bit" to fit the Ford satnav system; this also probably means different switch blanking plates.

i hope this can help you as i have just fitted my one with the help of jakey 247 and after a lot of time and surfing the web.

The best place is ebay germany for parts and sometimes for the sat nav unit, but don't buy a VW marked one as they light up red. (it will look out of place on a ford that light green???

hi all well the mfd and here are the resulus with some info:

MFD was a Vw version D one going into a 2001 Galaxy with a new VW changer and Vw changer cable. Orignal Streo was a ford 5000

I bought a Audio leads harness form ford to iso.

Removed exisitng stereo

removed trim around A/C (clips ON)

removed for a/c screws.

removed cup holders to get to screws holding in top of exisiting silver radio trim

removed screw in back of exisitng radio housing (attached to bulkhead)

Removed and refitted all swiched and blanks in new trim

reinstalled new trim

Installed cd changer running cable in side sill, left exisitng cable in place

Installed cd changer

Fitted small GPS aerial to front corner of dash near quarter light

Installed 26 pin plug with pins 4 and 5 connected to ign 12v and avc on exisitng loom

Installed MFD and tested all works OK, totally accurate and no need to tap ABS.

So it works and i am happy  But (always a BUT) the unit will not turn on/off with the ign.

I have tried connecting pin 4 on the 26 way plug to ign, and the red pos cable to ign and blue safe cable to 12v constant live still no joy, will not work with the igntion, any ideas?

thanks and i hope my tips are usefull to somebody

HI KENNY

I AM GLAD TO KNOW YOU HAVE GOT YOUR SAT NAV WORKING BUT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU HAVE CONNECTED PIN 4 AND 5 OF THE 26 WAY PLUG TO A LIVE??

YOU CONNECT PIN 4 TO A 12VOLT LIVE AND YOU CONNECT PIN 5 TO THE LIVE ON THE REVERSE LIGHT (BLUE /BLACK WIRE) SO THE SAT NAV KNOWS WHICH WAY YOU ARE GOING. EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE GETTING THE SIGNAL FROM YOUR AERIAL THE SATTELITE IN SPACE DOES NOT KNOW WHICH WAY YOU ARE FACING, WHICH IS WHY YOU NEED TO HAVE THE REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH CONNECTED.

YOU ALSO SAID YOU DID NOT HAVE TO TAP THE ABS BUT WORK YOURS WORKS CORRECTLY.

YOU SEE THE SAT NAV NEEDS A SIGNAL FROM THE ABS SO IT CAN CALCULATE THE DISTANCE YOU HAVE MOVED WITH SIGNAL FORM THE SATELITE IN SPACE YOU GET GPRS, SO HOW HAVE YOU GOT IT WORKING WITHOUT TAPPING INTO THE ABS? I HEARD YOU CAN TAP INTO THE GALA BECAUSE THAT SENDS A PULSE FROM THE ECU BUT IF THE CAR IS STATIONARY OR REVVING IT WILL THINK THAT YOU ARE MOVING, ALTHOUGH YOUR NOT.

:D

I suspect that the ABS tap is only for times when the satnat cannot see a satellite - eg when you are in a tunnel. So long as satnav can see a satellite it can work out which way you are going, and how fast you are travelling. Only sure-fire way would seem to be driving into a long tunnel and seeing what happens, I suppose.

hi ivor and v6 i have only connected poin 4 to live, pin 5 is the avc (aka Gala) from what i have found out is that versions and b of the mfd require abs connections version c and d work quite happily with the gala input.

This is the same as the golf and passat install.

it does work through a tunnel. i did not bother with the reverse connections as it works it out anyway after a few yards. The distance in reverse is never great enough to cause a problem real problems.

th eonly issue i have is the unit wont work with the ignation it's live all the time nad has to be manaully swicthed off, i have tried all combinations of the 12v and safe pin, still the same

v6 do you have part number of the harness you used and does yours work with the ignition?

cheers

 HI kennyand Ivor_E_Tower

It is good to see you can run and wire the sat nav in different ways as I have a mate who wants one fitted to her galaxy very soon and I hope it will be not to long a job to-do, as my one took me a few week to get sorted.

The harness I used saw from halford it cost

my alpine 33r has speed pulse sensor,so even in a tunnel your speed has been worked out so even if gps signal goes down still works out where u are from aveage speed

anyone bought a dab unit yet

i know alpine have 333r out now but it only comes dab ready which means u still need the dab box which cost around

Hi, I am alsi trying to fit a satnav system to a Gal. Does anybody know if the multi-function steering wheel will work with it and , if so, what the connections are? The brochure suggests that it will work. Also what are the connections on the 36 way connector? I have the names from the unit but i'm not sure of their function. On the other connector what are the K-Bus and S-Kont. connections for?

Thanks

Not so, SatNav units have internal gyro's and compass's and use the speed signal to calculate where the vehicle is. This information is then sync'd with the signal from the sats to keep resetting the vehicle position. Most of the operation is done onboard the vehicle using the internal sensors.
