Hi I have a 1.9TDI Galaxy. Lately I need to use a booster battery daily to get it going in the morning. Once done it's fine for the rest of the day.

Problem appeared after boxing day. Helped a neighbour to get his car started (Rover something or other), with jump leads.

Any suggestions on the couse and remedy at all? :(

Yes, Tigger is right (giving good advice - that's what Tigers do best). My parents had this problem with their car many years ago (it was garaged overnight but would always be difficult to start first thing), and a new battery fixed the problem immediately.

Diesels need a grunty battery to get going first thing in the morning - thereafter it's easier.

Sounds like your battery is on the way out - you could test the electrolyte if not sealed. It should have had ample opportunity for a good charge since Christmas.

Did you short circuit by accident when jumping your neighbours car?

Did you connect the negative terminal of the booster battery to an earth (such as a bolt head in the engine bay) rather then directly to the negative terminal on the battery to be boosted?

All hindsight now I'd say, sorry

and I'd agree that a new one is the remedy.

Regards,

Jeff.

Could be glowplugs, but more likely battery....(is starter turning over slower than usual?)

but first check the alternator is charging correctly (14+ volts at battery terminal with headlights and heated rear window on - 1500 rpm), then check glowplug circuit. Chance you blew something with that jumpstart.....
