Guest Ron240 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I have a June 97 Mondeo Si which i have owned since 6 months old. I was looking for my spare key but i seem to have lost it. The key i use is the 2 button remote type.Due to a recent scare involving lost keys i decided it would be a good idea to get a new spare key cut so i went to my Ford parts dept today. When enquiring as to how much it would cost i was asked if i had the red master key....i do not have any such key and i am almost certain that i never received one when i bought the car from the same Ford dealer. All i got was the remote key and an ordinary spare which had a tag attached to it with the key number on it.I told this to the person in the parts dept. but he insisted that there should definitely have been a red master key and without it the car would have to be taken into the workshop and reprogrammed at a cost of approx Quote

Guest Ron240 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 Thank you for that.Yes it has been of some help....My key is definitely type 9 without the red square. I am certain i never received a red key from my Ford dealer when i purchased the car,so this will mean i have the PATS system 11 immobiliser. The key that i have lost will have been type 5.If i have understood what i have read correctly, then i still have an expensive problem, because to programme a new key i need my 2 original keys to go through the programming procedure according to PATS system 11. I wonder why i just cant use the same key inserted twice...? There must be some difference recognized by the system between the 2 original programmed keys. So at the end of the day,the guy in the parts dept. was wrong about my red key but was unfortunately right about my car having to go into the workshop to have the system reprogrammed if i want a spare key. :( Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 You could try a local auto locks smith? I had a couple of new keys cut and programmed on my drive way by one :( I used these guys they travelled from Coventry to Northampton to do the job and were very efficent and helpful :( Quote
