Guest kd035050 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Hi all, I have a mk1 2000 model Gal 2.3 petrol and don't think it realy has enough grunt to pull my caravan they way I would like, not just from a power/speed point of view but also fuel economy. the van I pull is approx 6m long and 2m wide and weighs about the same as the car. So what I was thinking was does ayone know of a turbo conversion for this car? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I have seen a MK2 2.3 Turbo :D IIRC it was an ex metroplition police vehicle :D the present owner is a quick response accident investigation officer in Oxfordshire, when I met him he was on his way back from Banbury after visiting Pro Drive to get it serviced if its just a boost of power your after see about getting it chipped! a decent tuner with a rolling road should be able to optimise the map to gain a couple of extra horses! Guest kd035050 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 i would like a decent boost in power and maybe a bit better fuel economy. I know this is a tall order Quote

Guest MATT Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 Trade it in for a TDI  ...now your talking sense!!! B) a turbo will dramaticly increase power, espesially on a petrol. but i dont know how you would do it, you may want to look into 'boy-racer' shops, and ask them. matt, in tenerfe Quote
Guest Snooper601 Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Chipping a 2.3 will give you 160 bhp from the original 145 with about 25NM more torque. The cost of a turbo conversion would be more than changing to the TDI and probably a lot mor unreliable. BTW I had a 130TDi Galaxy in Italy as a hire car recently, up in the mountains, and it was gutless! I couldn't even pull away on hill starts without slipping the clutch to spin up the turbo. I found that I could floor it in 1st gear from tickover and nothing happened! Was it just the altitude or are they all the same? Put me right off getting the diesel version Cheers Quote
sanjsanj Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 If you think about it, all police cars probably have a turbo or are/should be powerful....and they are obviously maintained regardless of cost...check this out: http://fifthgear.five.tv/jsp/5gmain.jsp?lnk=601&featureid=24 !!! if you want a relativly new car then this sounds like the place to go.... (i have nothing to do with this place)ALSO!!! it would be a good place to get spares or alloys! wicked! Quote
muffking Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 I agree with the cost, it won't be cheap. I had my 1.8 Zetec Escort turbocharged by an engine builder in Lincoln called Ian Howell who often rebuilds Ford engines to take turbocharging. Mine ran well over 250bhp which was mental for a FWD Escort, but still cost in the region of Quote
