Guest Bobc Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Anybody any news on this.Left the car parked a few days ago and returned to find all the windows down and the roof open. Yes it is a Mondeo Ghia X. Fortunatley it was not raining at the time and there were no thieves around but this is a worying trend given the English Summer.I fouond that pressing and holding the lock button on the remote reproduced the problem - once but this "seems" to have reset the fault.Anybody out there with similar experience or do Ford's themselves have a possible fix?Bobc Quote
HJT Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 The Mondeo Ghia has "global open and closing". By pressing and holding the lock or unlock button, the windows and sunroof will open or close depending on whether you are locking or unlocking the car. You may have accidently pressed the button as you walked away from the car and caused the windows and sunroof to open. This feature is documented in the handbook.I actually found this feature very useful on my 2001 Mondeo Ghia. After it had been sitting in the sun all day you could open everything up as you walked to the car and get the hot air out before you got in, rather than having to climb into a baking hot car then get the ignition on then get all the windows down while you fried. Dally Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 It was for this reason that global closing and opening was removed as a feature operable via the remote. On latest spec galaxys it can now only be operated via the key! Quote
HJT Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Yes I noticed they had done this. It's one of the small things I miss about my Mondeo. I used to hit the button as I stepped out the door from work and by the time I had the building alarm on and the place locked up, the hot air was released from the car. (I was only 20 feet from my car so I wasn't asking to get it nicked by doing this!).Still, I prefer virtually everything else about my Galaxy Ghia so I can't complain. Howard Quote
Guest Bobc Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 :D Thanks for the information. BUT how do we explain that when I returned to the vehicle I found all the windows down and the roof open but the doors LOCKED.If I had inadvertently pressed the "open" button then I could expect the doors to be unlocked as well. I "fiddled" around with the remote trying to reproduce the problem and found that pressing and holding the LOCK button reproduced the fault that is all the windows opened - once. Since then the windows do not open by pressing any button.... (apart from those in the car). Seems I may have reset whatever and done away with the feature. Worth mentioning - a friend of mine had the same problem on his Mondeo - and he was not using the remote. His wife had this key at home when he was called by security at the shopping Mall......Thanks anyway for the info... If it happens again I'll let you know. Apart from this and the fact that the trip computer blanks out when the car gets hot I love my Mondeo..... Bobc Quote
HJT Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 I don't have my Mondeo anymore so I'm working from memory but I think if you unlock the doors but don't open them, after 30 seconds the doors lock again. I don't think this would close all the windows and sunroof though. Just a possibility, might be worth experimenting.I absolutely loved the handling on my Mondeo. It was probably one of the best handling cars I have owned. Howard Quote
