Hello everyone,

I just had some top end work done on my V6. However the nice garage didn't think it was necessary to change the oil. It has only been in about 2500 miles, (ford standard semi synthetic) I think that if things were wearing it would be cheap maintenance to replace the oil anyway.
My question is... Does any one have any ideas on what is the best type to use, I would always choose a branded oil as a minimum, do you think fully synthetic (such as Mobil 1) is worth the money? Also I have used Slick 50 oil treatment on previous cars, anyone have any views on oil treatments?
I will be definitely changing the oil and filter this week.

Cheers,

Ian

Get our Galaxy 2.3 Ghia on Tuesday and it's into a local garage on Wednesday for a major service, just for my peace of mind, so I'll be interested to view any comments on oil as well

Ian,

As a former Mondeo owner I ran it on Castrol MagnaTec it comes in a variety of flavours and Halfords seem to have specials on it on occassion. I found the engine 'seemed' to be more responsive and certainly reved a lot better ( and harder ) I've used it on serveral different types of engine and always find it wears well.

As the vehicle has covered 61,000 miles with very little service history, I'm having a major service carried out locally for

I used fully synthetic oil in an engine that had done 100,000k (it was only a play car) it blew the bottom end to pieces, but i would recommend a branded make of oil ,We use only mobil oils at work due to the quality of it, my galaxy uses mobil one semi-synthetic because it an old one,if your car requires the ford FE 5w-30 i surgest you stick to it ALL major oil companies do it.

My 2.8i Ghia X (T) recently went in for a services. On mine they actually changed the oil but seem to have put a thinner one in. If you have the TIS cd there is a list of galaxy engines in there (workshop manuals). Click on your engine and click general specification. It should be listed somewhere in there.

good Luck :D
