I've got a problem with my brakes, we recently got new discs and pads on the front of our Galaxy and ever since then the pedal, whilst not spongey, has alot of travel before the brakes come on. If you pump them once they work very well, but obviously this is not good enough. Also with the engine off , if you put your foot on the pedal and gently apply pressure the pedal slowly goes down towards the floor Any one any ideas?

BTW the brakes were fine before the new parts were fitted

This topic has come up before, statements were made that the Galaxy is over-servoed and this is normal !. It doesnt sound right to me and mine doesn't do it, If the pedal goes down slowly all the way it would point to a fluid leak or master cylinder seals failed. Air in the system would give a spongy feel to the brakes as the air bubbles compress.

I had my dealer put new pads on all round before I bought my 53plate tdi130.

There was about 1/2 an inch of pedel travel before the brakes started to work.

Then I started getting brake squeel when I was driving so it went back and had new discs fitted to the front.

Now no squeel BUT still pedal travel before any operation.

The pedal is solid though when pressed hard.

Thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention that the whole system was bled correctly when the news parts were fitted, the pedal is firm but just has excessive travel and also the brakes have now started to squeal when braking gently!
