Mk1 Mondeo Gear Stick Knob

Does anyone know how to get the gear stick knob off on a Mk1 Mondeo?

 

It doesn't unscrew (i've tried) and it dosen't pull either.

 

Any ideas?

Its a screw on (or so the pic in the haynes says).

Of course, it may have been glued-on by someone else in the past using a handbrake lock.

i looked at the pic in the haynes manual and where it looks like it screws on there is actually a spring , so not sure how it comes of at all , i tried to unscrew mine without any luck

Success. It doesn't unscrew and isn't designed to either. There is a groove/ridge on the gear stick and a collar on the gear stick knob. Once the knob is on it isn't supposed to come off.

 

Three minutes with a hack saw soon changed that..... :angry:

 

That is now sorted. All I need now is the wiper blades and steering wheel cover I ordered off ebay and all will be sorted. (Until the nxt thing goes wrong).
