Not all garages are rip off artists or cowboys! I happen to have three good ones near me, one does my AC serviceing and repairs, the other does my serviceing and major repairs, the third happens to be the local dealers! not that I use them for repairs but their parts dept is great and some of the guy's behind the counter are willing to spend little time with you and go through the images on the screen to make sure you get the correct parts first time! so not all garages are bad just the majority of them it seems :D

For the AC work I use The Garage At Blakesley LTD , Quinton End, Blakesley 01327860974

they usually do a diagnostic check on the system and then let you know what if anything needs doing, the cost of the diagnostic session is then included in the overall price!

Don't bother with my local ford dealer ALLEN FORD I think there service is C**P.

Take our galaxy to Nationwide Autocentre, Warwick. Absoluteley brilliant, miles cheaper than Ford dealers with better service. Plus you get gallons of Tesco clubcard points which makes it even cheaper in the long run.

Congrat's Mike,

Baby runs like an absolute dream, and comes with a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty on the whole box!

Nice one - that sounds like a success - you'll have to change your vehicle type profile now

Sorry to hear that you're 'going through a divorce' - hence the avatar?

ATB,

Jeff.

Sorry, fivenecks,

Good garages - no, not near me.

IMO 'technicians' in main dealers (VW and Ford from experience and I would welcome being corrected) do not know the basics e.g. how to read VW warning signs in front of their nose re why not to overfill the sump, and cannot think outside the box or beyond the diagnostic readout, so to speak.

I think readers of this forum know I am not at all happy with the service I have received to date from the main dealer where I bought my Alhambra.

On recommendation, I have just rang another dealer (thanks Gazza) and asked them if my Alhambra should have had a cam belt change at 40k (it's now done 50k) and, yes, it should.

They've bent over backwards to get me in quick, with a courtesy car, so it is booked in for Friday (its Tuesday pm now).

I've also asked them to change the tensioner (they recommended to anyway), aux belt, front pads, front discs, do a 50k service and replace all the screws that are missing that the other dealer has "lost".

I'll let you know how I get on.

Well, what a coincedence!!!

I just arrived home and got a phone call from a Manchester dealer who said that Lookers (Stockport) have closed down!

Am I surprised?

WOAH! I nearly went through the windscreen when I first put my brakes on ;)

What a difference new pads and discs make.

Well, so far, I am well chuffed with the service I received today.

I've had a 50k service (505.01 oil too!!!), new cam belt, new tensioner, new aux belt, new front discs and pads, brake fluid change, and all the screws and bolts that were missing replaced.

I showed them the mess the previous dealer had made fitting the condenser and they said they had never seen one done so badly. The supports have to be cut, but they do it neatly and finish it off so it looks like part of the car and you normally can't tell it's been done (see other thread I posted somewhere re: condenser). The missing bolt should be replaced because although it is held by the bottom lug, the vibration may cause the condenser to stress. Anyway, it's been sorted now ;) .

For the first time ever, I've also been given a litre of shell Helix 505.01 oil to top up when necessary (it doesn't use any oil but it's nice to have).

Courteous all the way too.

I'll have a good inpect tomorrow, but so far 10/10, worth the trip up the motorway.

I can tow my caravan to France with confidence now!
