Spare Wheel Winch

After reading the stories on here I decided to see if my spare wheel winch was still in working order. (never used it before )

 

Jammed first attempt. Managed to drop it enough to onbolt the assembly.

 

Now the question - Has anyone pulled one of the winches apart and what is normally the cause of the jam ?

Had to use mine today. I did find that if tension is not put on it. I found it could tangle and instead of undoing could start to tighten? as the wire got caught and tangled.

I've had a nightmare trying to source a second hand unit from anywhere! When my original unit failed, I removed it and stripped it down only to find it was siezed solid and the cable had frayed to nothing. No chance of repair hence my quest to fing a replacement. Local Ford dealer quoted
