Driving back from Wharfedale the other day and suddenly the Gal started to vibrate violently. Thought initially it was a flat tyre, but no, so pulled over again and looked around and underneath, but nothing visible. So carried on and then crunching sound started in every gear, vibrating once more. So pulled into a pub car park and rang the AA, explained what the sound was and they said it was most likely the Drive Shaft or Gearbox so would relay Gal on truck to local dealer. Still awaiting dealer to get back to me with fault. Anyone else experienced this type of thing before ???? Have a warranty, hope it covers it......... :D How much ?? :(

sounds like one of the balls has dropped out of the CV joint and jammed it.

Just re-read your post. It could be the differential has failed as it is crunching the gears.

Check that the dealer has got the car - One place where I worked, the AA "lost" a car being recovered to a dealer - it was sitting in one of the AA yards awaitng transfer to another truck for the next part of its long recovery journey from Manchester to Swindon...... The AA don't use the same truck for a long recovery operation, the trucks only cover a certain area so they use transfers.

Thanks, I stayed with Gal throughout, and was then taken home from dealer by same truck.

Sounds like its the drive shaft thats gone on it, dealers ordered a new 'shaft assembly' that I presume is the drive shaft assembly. Anyone any experience with this ?

Drive shaft with both CVs attached. Often cheaper than buying a seperate CV joint, taking old one off the shaft, fitting new one, fitting gaitor etc.

At last, good service from a dealer, 4 days later car fixed with new drive shaft assembly fitted. Car even washed too. All covered by warranty, with not a penny to pay.......if only it was always like that........
