Guest asylumhouse Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 hello one and all, this is my first post, i hope somebody can help me( before i spend Quote
johnb80 Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 Whilst not being a fan of the V6 gal or having worked on one, I have spent many years as a hobby diagnosing problems on fuel injected engines. The first thing you really must do is to get the fault codes read either by purchasing the lead and downloading the software or take your right arm and shirt off your back and leave them with your local Ford dealer. Once you have the codes, then you know where to start looking, it's also worth looking round all the relevat connector and inspecting them for corrosion, water ingress etc. I know the petrol Gals have issues with coil packs, it may be simply a pack thats failing on yours. Don't burn it yet ! Regards - John Quote
Topbloke Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 if you are a member of the AA allpatrols carry diagnostic's (vixen tis its name)they should be able to get the codes out for you then clear them, make sure that you record them, they should but some times dont, its a bit hit and miss as to how good the patrol is but you will probbly get the standard answer needs to go to the dealers mate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!. if you are not a AA member i am sure that you must know some one that is and was traveling with you when it just came on (wink wink nudge nudge) saturday afternoon is a good time to call as the dealers are shut when you have the codes post them on the forum and some kind soul will tell you what they mean and possibly point you in the right direction Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 It does sound like the common fault of coil pack failpack failure  the engine warning light will come on as unburnt fuel is passing through the exhaust and can damage the cat if this occurs often! as the others have said get the codes read and go from there before you splash out to much! Guest asylumhouse Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 hello again, just paid out Quote
Guest asylumhouse Posted March 25, 2005 Report Posted March 25, 2005 just a quick note, the coil had gone and i replaced it my self( the 2.8 v6 has individual coils for each spark plug!!!) i am now wondering, due to the engine warning light still being on, if i have to have the fault codes deleted??? or should it of gone out after i replaced the code and rectified the fault?? if anyone knows please reply, many thanks  Quote
Topbloke Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 the codes will have to be cleared you can try disconeccting the battery for ten mins but i dont think that will do anything Quote
Sharanfx Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 You might have to get the light reset, but sometime after using the car for a while it resets itself as no fault can be found. Its all due to EU emission laws, so you might end up having to pay your local mechanic again to reset it. Hope this helps  Quote
