rwtomkins Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 When I get into the car and the interior lights come on, they flicker - not completely on and off, more a kind of trembling. If I put the exterior lights on, they flicker in exactly the same way. This continues even after I start the engine and isn't affected even if I rev the engine. However, after about a minute's driving, it stops all by itself and doesn't happen again until... When I reach the destination, stop the engine and pull the key out, the interior lights come on and start flickering again. If I put the exterior lights on, I can see them flickering in exactly the same way. Has anyone else had this or can anyone suggest what might be causing it? It's more a niggle than a problem but I'm afraid it might be a symptom of some impending problem that I ought to get fixed while the car's still under warranty. Quote
chromedome Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 First off, check the battery connections. Make sure they are clean and tight. Quote
PopDorset Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I had a VW air-cooled van in the 70's with this...it turned out to be the voltage regulator on the alternator. I don't know where it's mounted these days though. Lucas used to be able to check this sort of thing for you...worth a try? Quote
Guest crasin Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I would say that there is a bad earth somewhere on the car causing a prob...perhaps after driving for approx 1 min u hit same pothole /drain cover which reconnects this wire temporarly.. and comes off again later...would rule out any door sensors as does this with both door and manual switch Quote
rwtomkins Posted March 18, 2005 Author Report Posted March 18, 2005 Interesting ideas... much appreciated, thanks a lot guys. It seems this isn't a problem others have. I think I need to analyse exactly when the problem starts and when it stops, to see what it coincides with. I wonder if it's anything to do with the "ignition" switch? There must be a light switch inside there because something switches the interior lights on when you pull the key out. Will post the outcome when I have one. Quote
Guest crasin Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 I would say it is nothing to do with ignition switch as still doing prob without key inside ignition if u manually turn on light i suspect Quote
