Does anyone know if the receiver dryer ahead of the radiator can be swapped out (2001 1.9 PD TDi)? I believe it is a (long term) service part but someone said to me that it was integral with the radiator and a new rad is required!!! It seems that I have a very small gas leak at this point - anyone else every suffer the same?

Actually, in general, how would people rate the aircon? Does it ever get ice-cold?

I'm sure the receiver / dryer unit is a seperate item. My 115 TDi Ghia aircon works well. I leave the temp set at 21 all the time and never have to touch it. When the suns out the cooling starts and the environment in the car is very comfortable. I know many people have suffered with aircon problems but mine so far has been trouble free.

I think receiver dryer is combined?? I'm sure one of the Techie's will confirm.

The gas leak at this point was my problem( After everything else was changed).

I believe the connections etc get corroded. It is a known fault & Main Dealers should be aware. But most as we know are unaware. I think that Ford issued a Service bulletin that if I'm correct SEATKID posted a while back.

In my opinion the system never gets Ice cold, what you have to understand is how it all works.

This site may be of interest, he did post a year or so ago.

Air Con John

Here is some info I posted in an earlier thread. Hope it helps

Gaz :o

So that I can monitor my air-con performance I rang round several SEAT dealerships with various results. Eventually I managed to get a chart faxed to me with the recomended temps and test instructions.

Make sure Vehicle is out of sunlight. Set blower to No 4 and dial to coolest. Close all vents apart from centre 2 face vents. Run the Engine at 2000rpm. Insert thermometer in left centre vent and engage AC. Temps should be in following range.

Ambient temp(external) Output temp(vents)

18 8-12

20 7-11

25 6-10

30 5-9

35 4.5-8.5
