Hi all - I am new to this forum (stumbled on it by chance), live in Bexley / Dartford area, purchased my Ford Galaxy last November'04, I had it recently serviced by an independant mechanic and collected with damaged sills  ...and just realised from others he is a 'Cowboy' with a know it and fix it all approach.

I now need to get the Cambelt changed (48000 miles on the clock). Does any one know of a reputable garage with Glaxy repair exprience in this area? or a reputable main dealer who will not rip me off?

thanks in advance

I cant help with any local knowledge,

MK1 galaxy had 60,000 mile cambelt interval

My first Mk 2 gal still had a 60,000 mile cambelt change interval

The change to 40,000 miles replacement came when ford commenced their 3 year warranty....so you payed for it....(about mid 01, I think)

Although it MAY be feasible that the newer PD engine places greater strain on the belt....ANYBODY comment on that?

I say "MAY" because the older engines injector pump Probably also ran off the cambelt

They also increased the width of the belt by 5mm on the PD motors to help take the strain... This is why it is VITAL to make sure you get the right belt if changing it yourself, and probably better to supply the CORRECT belt yourself if getting it changed anywhere other than a main dealer (yes, I am assuming they know the difference!!!)

I CAN HELP  IF YOUR GALAXY IS A DIESEL ENGINE TYPE THE CAMBELT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AT 40K IF YOU CAN TRAVEL AS FAR AS HERNE BAY THEN TRY COUNTY GARAGE THEY ARE A SMALL AND VERY HELPFUL FORD RETAIL GARAGE THIS WORK WE TAKE A DAY TO REPLACE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD BE TOO HOT TO REPLACE THE CAMBELT. THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE COLD TO WORK ON THEY SELL A LOT OF DIESEL GALAXYS AND THEY CLEAN YOUR CAR TOO. ASK FOR MARTIN ;)

I can vouch for County Garage, I have used them for years. Very friendly and seem to know what they are talking about and they have never crushed my sills. Mind you they have never cleaned my car, probably took one look at it and thought "I'm not cleaning that it's filty!" :) :)

Don't go to B&S Motors in Gravesend - the misaligned my clutch and passed my MOT when it should have been a failure.

It was their mistake. They failed my car, told me to get some welding done. So I got it done, and was told by the welder (different garage) that he was an MOT tester and it should have failed because of another area on the sills that needed welding up (but wasnt foumd during inspection).

I took the car back to B&S who soon found their fault (after inspecting the work they had told me to do). They were keeping it quiet because i was standing there, but they knew.

They didnt even tell me that they had buggered up (it was
