yghiatdi Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 Here is a strange one for you to get your thinking caps on for. When I change gear and the revs drop I get a strange noise from the engine bay. The noise is best described as a fluttering whistle that slows and gets quieter. I think it may be coming from the turbo - the variable veins thingy - but I have only just had a replacement turbo fitted 2500 miles ago - under warranty luckily I believe it should have cost Quote
Andrew T Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 I've had similar noises from a blowing exhaust / Turbo joint. I rather liked them myself. Quote
Dave-G Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 the variable veins thingy :D or vanes even :D I had a noise like that appear on my allhambra. It did'nt seem to do it any harm Quote
yghiatdi Posted March 9, 2005 Author Report Posted March 9, 2005 Ok so I cant sepll.... Apart from the noise there does not appear to be any other problem and as Andrew T says they sort of grow on you. A blowing joint may be a possibility, as I said earlier I have just had the turbo replaced. I will leave it for a week or so and see what happens, my warranty runs out in May so I just need to get it back before then. Quote
Jeff115 Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 I referred to DubDrivers mention of this sound in a previous post here... I'm delighted to see your mention of'minor bird' chirping sounds from under the bonnet on acceleration/as I've experienced this but not when engine is cold. from http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=4105 and I'm now wondering if they're related to your fluttering whistle that slows and gets quieter It's all a bit Oddie  Sorry  Jeff. GSMGuy Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 You sure it's not the synchro hubs in the gearbox spinning up and down? M?ike Quote
SharanTDICarat Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 I had the same noise coming from my 2001 polo TDI estate it was taken in several times under warranty had a new turbo new MAF and CV joint but still no change ended up being referred back back to VW Germany they said they now of the problem but there was no fix availible at the time ( sold the polo in 2002)and it was not a problem that would cause damage. Never did get to the problem. sorry this does not really help  TAM Quote
