Richard gal Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Well talking to the next Ford dealer nearest to me, it has been Ford policy to use Formula E in these engines since it was available. So how many galaxy engines have ground to pieces?, he said they dont have problems, (better than actual Ford engines) its always an electrical related problem when they have an engine problem Quote
seatkid Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) Theyre hardly likely to say anything else. Most people only use dealers during the warranty period. When I asked the 2nd hand dealer down the road why the 2 year old Golf with 9000 miles on the clock had 2 "Hero" tyres on the front - he said "probably had two punctures" - yeah. Bigjeeze Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 PD Engines VW505.01 Oil - Where's the cheapest currently? - It cetainly isn't Halfords who's pricing seems to be on a steep upward curve. Any other ideas? Quote
Richard gal Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 I wonder now where Ford stand legally if you have an engine failure at 3+ years and full Ford service history? Surely you can say the maker of the engine insists on this oil and you have used this every time, which led to premature wear, and wont there be lots of cars at this stage now? Quote
TeamGreen Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 As you are using a VW engine then it might be worth trying a VW dealer or as I did for my non PD engine their own parts company The Trade Parts Specialists, http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/, as in April this year I paid Quote

TeamGreen Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 Most of the trips done in my car are just local with the engine rarely getting up to temp then I admit to playing on the very safe side! managed to find the recipt for the oil and it was Quote

Big Stew Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 The PD engine has unit pump injectors, which are actuated by 4 extra lobes on the camshaft (it has 3 lobes per cylinder). It is due to the high pressure between these lobes and the injector actuator that the PD engine requires an oil to VW 505.01.These oils are made by Castrol, Millers, Q8, BP, Shell, Texaco, Morris's, etc., etc. Some are semi-synthetic (eg: Millers) and others are fully synthetic (eg: Castrol). The cheapest I've seen is Quote
tim-spam Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I've now changed over to Comma PD oil as the TXT I was using has been replaced with Castrol Edge and the price has risen considerably. Comma oil is highly recommended by 'those who know' and is around Quote
Richard gal Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 (edited) Its worth noting ford dealers (2 near me at least) and Ford customer services, state their formular E (15/30 i think) is ok for a VW/AUDI tdi in a Galaxy. They claim its fine and VW dealers use a better oil as polos etc need a better one and its to simplyfy things in each dealership. The old guy in my Ford dealer says he never seen any damage to an engine caused by oil that they have serviced according to book. Edited February 27, 2010 by Richard gal Quote
edatelder Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 Formula E is a 5W/30 oil for Ford petrol engine with hydraulic valve lifters [?]. It is not a PD oil needed for Sharan, Galaxy, Alhambra. etc. to VW spec 505.01. Quote

They may be wrong but thats what they use. Quote

jkspoff Posted March 1, 2010 Author Report Posted March 1, 2010 Good old post ! My local dealership have a 'one oil for all' mentality ! Its the one with the white bear. Be careful, when asking for an oil change make sure they give you the container they used for the oil change just to make sure its the right stuff. Quote

jkspoff Posted March 18, 2010 Author Report Posted March 18, 2010 Its fiddly, taking the old one out is easier than putting the new one in, follow the instructions and use some brute force. I drew blood doing mine ! Quote
