I am thinking of getting sat nav for my galaxy

I am looking at several systems including tom tom go and other portable pda types.

Any comments from people who have sat nav and their views on thier system would be appreciated.

I like the idea of having a portable system so either the wife or I can use it. Also like the security of having a unit I can hide or remove from the car.

Cheers :(

I have had a play with Tom Tom Go and I was impressed :) very easy to use, the touch screen makes it very easy to use although the screen can get a bit messy from all those oily finger prints on it, but I believe now you can get washable screen covers for it :D the get you home feature is a nice touch, as is the speed camera data base :( if you find someone in a car with it ask them nicely what they think and I'm sure they will tell you it's a great system and give you a demo

Tomtom Go m8 - I've had a few, Garmin, pocket pc based stuff and the like, and the Go is LOUD, accurate and Tomtom's 3d maps are the best. Plus it's a one box system, and even has it's own internal battery so no wires needed!!!

I just bought a Navman icn510 yesterday for when we aren't using the galaxy. My brother has a TomTom go and it is indeed an impressive piece of kit. I had intended to buy one but was impressed with the much slimmer profile of the icn510 (fits in your sirt pocket).

Observations so far are that both are great at guidance. icn510 smaller, lighter and brigher screen - the tomtom has a far superior sound output.

I would still say that you can't beat factory fit though!

Thanks for the info..

Have also seen a Garmin street pilot - any one used one of these?

Looks quite good and similar to tom tom go

Tomtom GO is great - new software is coming out soon for the Go, according to information at pocketgpsworld.com, which will make it even better, so might be best holding off for a bit?

I have a Mitac Mio 168 PDA with TOm Tom software and it is great. I had a proper fitted sat anv in my last car but would not go back to that again.

The Mitac comes with all of the car fittings you need and at least you can take it out and use it on foot if needed and also as a PDA for regular use.

I paid , about a year ago,

I run TomTom on my Ipaq PDA with bluetooth GPS. One real advantage is Outlook on the PDA sync's with my desktop, & on the PDA I can 'click' on any address in Outlook to start TomTom calculating the route and presenting the map - it's brilliant. ~ Scott

I have a Garmin Street Pilot III Deluxe - 3 years old now - can't fault it. I've used it abroad too, to take me straight to the front door of the Hotel in France (near Paris) - no problems.

I got a TomTom Go,as said above, cant fault it, although will be better when map databse is updated (within next month or so).

TT are bringing out a new range of GOs, so the existing Classic should be available at discount.

Highly recommended.
