Guest hiplip Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 I wonder if anybody has any ideas for fitting extra security to thier system, ie bolts or some additional clamp to stop the unit being removed by the keys alone. I know this will only delay someone who realy wants your unit, but time is not thier friend. I have had one unit stolen from my Mondeo and this proved very expensive to replace. The insurance comp' only coverd my unit up to Quote
_dg Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 As you say, if someone wants to steal it, then they will. I would increase your insurance premium to cover full replacement if it is important to you. I use a removeable unit (PDA) so that there is nothing to tempt the would-be thief Quote

_dg Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 OK What about either a separate policy for the unit (or difference between what Direct line will pay and the true cost to you) This should not cost too much. Or shifting insurance to get the cover you want? Obviously you would have to weigh up the costs of a potentially higher premium againts cost of the extra you would pay for a claim. Have you spoken with someone at Direct Line and mentioned that you will consider moving insurers because of this limited cover? Or an old jumper 'just thrown' on to the dash so that it 'just happens' to cover the centre console. I recall someone on this forum saying that he would cover his dash mounted unit with a baseball cap, these seemed a good deterrent to the casual thief Quote
