Glass Misting Up

I find that the interior glass gets misted up quite quickly when I am just using the air blower - requiring frequent use of the air-con system to clear it.

 

I know this can happen with re-circulated air, but the settings I am using are for fresh external air (ie the amber light is Off).

 

I presume the intake flaps are electronically controlled, but is there a simple way I can test that the interior is getting external air?

 

If all is OK, is this a common thing with the ventilation system?

(fingers crossed) a small leak from the heater matrix can cause the windows to mist up (especially the windscreen). Is your water level dropping?

Could also be a water leak into the vehicle from a bad rainwater seal somewhere, with water ending up near or in some of the vents.

My 99 2.3 zetec is fine in dry weather but mists up quickly in damp or wet weather! I've heard this is a common problem with galaxy's hence my air con runs nearly all the time [ well it did till it packed up! ]

The misting starts on the windscreen but quickly spreads to all glass including the rear window - which is why I suspected a recirculation problem.

 

However, I recall it being a bit humid recently so I may monitor external weather before I start dismantling anything, just in case it is a "feature" of the car

This topic came up on the previous version of the forum. I think that the concensus was that with air con in general and Galaxy air con in particular, the incoming fresh air is made damp by the water previously removed by the air con, and so is more prone to fogging up yer windies.

 

I'm not sure that anyone reported fogging of the rear window, mind you. Are you sure that you haven't got the dreaded water ingress, also discussed, at great length, on the previous version?

 

I use the air con almost all the time (and have no touble with fogging).

when you switch off the recirculation you should hear the flaps open, kinda like a small rush of air behind the dash, if u dont they may be stuck/broken

if all your windows are misting up, it sounds like waters getting into the vehicle

rear hatch seal is common, as is the rear doors, a simple way to check is to puss the front seats forward, and remove the covers from the floor, under the seats.

is it damp, or worse still, full of water, ??? on 96 and 97 models, the alarm control unit is under the passenger seat, and a sure sign of flooding in this place is the alarm and central locking, doing weird things, or not workin at all

ministry of crap design strikes again....Our new Galaxy Zetec behaves the same in wet weather. I have had other large vehicles and vans and have never experienced such a problem with them. Yours is normal I am afraid.

 

I don't understand how people without the air-con manage - as previously stated it may be a self fulfilling problem in that using the air-con creates water condense on the evaporator which then gets blown through the ducts into the car causing the problem.

 

We have to use air-con in the wet and so do other Galaxy owners we have consulted...

Mines the same. Agree with your sentiments completely! Yet another design flaw.
