Strange problem of late. Have a 1.9TDI n reg.

When turning over the engine it fires, but cuts out almost immediately. I retry a number of times with foot off accelerator, half down and all the way down. Most of the time it has solved the problem - except today.

Today it wouldn't start at all even though it would fire. I squirted with WD40, tried again and then waited for rescue man. An hour later it started second time.

Rescue man (from Direct Line rescue) said "could be air in the fuel" - I said "duh - so". He said "take it to a garage and get it checked out". Sometimes you get idiots and sometimes you get crap - what can you expect these days.

Anyone out there got any clues. BTW - I have booked it in to get my thermostat changed, since the car hasn't been warming up for some time - don't think it is related.

When did you last change the fuel filter? (its normally changed every 20k), it may be full of water. iirc there is a hand tap under the filter, hold a glass under the filter, unnscrew the tap and drain half a glass, inspect.....

Other possibilities....

Engine starts but immediately stops.......

Possible Source(s): DTC detected.

Action(s) to take: REFER to WDS.

Possible Source(s): Air ingress into the fuel lines.

Action(s) to take: For additional information, refer to

When this happened to mine it was the immobiliser. Try your master key in it, to make sure its not this problem. My problem was a missing microchip in the transponder key.
