Guest massifheed Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 I've been getting a knocking noise from the front of our KA for the past few thousand miles when it goes over small bumps, and the ride seems a tad noisy. It's currently done 50K and is about two years old. A friend of mine who had a Ka had the same thing and said it was the suspension bushes, and that they go quite often on KA's. Google searches and other people I've spoken to seem to confirm this, however I took it to my local Ford dealer to see if this was the case and was told that it was the steering rack that needed replacing (at a cost of
Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Take it to an independent garage for a second opinion - try to get them to jack the car up and check for excesive wear in the bushes (!) .50,000 miles seems a very short life for a steering rack these days.
Guest massifheed Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Thanks for the reply. I am certainly going to take it to an idependant mechanic to have a look at it. Guest j_mchattie Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 My mondeo rack is still going strong at 152,000. It will be your bushes - ive replaced loads of them on family cars. The AntiRollBar link arm can also get noisy - there are two ball joints that wear and knock really loudly with repetitive little movements. Grab them, and shake them violently, you will know if its them because they will move slightly, or twist easily. Very simple to replace -
Guest finlad Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 my ford ka used to knock under the passenger side wing whilst travelling over speed bumps. carelessly, i have travelled over speed bumps at high speeds since i discovered this worrying noise.now there is no knocking noise at all! im not sudjesting you drive your car up a curb at 50mph but maybe the steering column was ok to start with and that your suspension springs nd dampners may just need "re-energised"im no mechanic so disregard any information in this reply as usefull!
