malcolm.dobell Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 There've been lots of posts about the aux heater Mine has just been changed. under warranty(noise and smelling of diesel). However it doesn't work at all. Going back to the dealer on Thursday; want to look intelligent. As well as aux heater not working, the engine glow plug light goes out after about a second or so. Previously it was taking 10sec or so on cold mornings. I suspect the engine management isn't recoginising it's cold and thus doesn't switch on the aux heater. Is this faintly plausible? Quote
GSMGuy Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 Aux heater has it's own seperate sensor for temperature, which only controls the aux heater - it's a make/break switch that should operate at 10 degrees, it is situated behind the windscreen scuttle panel, roughly in line with the battey, and clipped to one of the wiper linkage arms, awkward to get at but simple enough to test the sensor and short it out to check the heater. It doesn't affect the glowplug preheat time, as this is controlled by the ECU via a coolant temp sensor, so this is something else.. Just double check that the dealer has pushed the multiplug all the way home, it is fixed to the mounting bracket, just above the aux heater, and it is a bugger to push all the way home due to the angle, firstly give it a tug on the loom, and if it comes undone, it wasn't in properly, it should noticeably click into position..
