Hi all

 

Last night key worked fine to operate the central locking. Went out this morning and nothing happens when i press the buttons.

 

The light on the key "blips" when a button is pressed. It dosen't unlock or lock.

 

 

Any ideas????? :lol:

Does the central locking still work from the door lock? if so it's likely that the battery is flat and has not enough power to transmit a signal or as paul suggests how wets the cubby hole under the passenger seat (pre 98 models)

Hi there,

 

thanks for your replies.

 

Its a 95 2.0L. The footwell is bone dry. Door locks from the handle inside.

 

The battery i take it you are referring to the one in the handset?

 

if so, is it a case of removing the old one and installing the new one or will i have to resycronise the key with the car?

There are two battery's both have the + side faceing up when you replace them, and try not to touch the battery's as the acid in your skin can shorten their life!

you may need to reprogram the remote to the system if it has no power for more than ten seconds!

ok, thanks for your help so far.

 

Once i change both batteries i am going to need to reprogram the key.

I have looked in the haynes manual, ford owners manual and on here and i cant find how to do it?

 

Any body know how to do this?

Be quick about it and you shouldnt need to reprogram it :lol:

but if you do need to here's how

 

with the door locked, stick the key in the drivers lock and unlock the door five times in less than than five seconds

the red LED on the door should now be on permenantly? and will stay on for fifthteen seconds only! in which time you must program in the key!

now aim the key at the reciever while pressing and holding one of the buttons on the key, now press the other button three times and release both buttons, if it has worked the LED on the key should flash six times? if you have any more keys? they also should be programmed into the system in the next fifthteen seconds if not the system will drop out of programmimng mode

This is the actual proceedure used by Ford:

 

Remote Transmitter Programming

 

Note:

A maximum of four remote transmitters can be programmed to the generic electronic module (GEM).

 

Programming must be carried out at the same time for all the remote transmitters.

 

Note:

Before attempting to enter programming mode, make sure that the vehicle battery is fully charged and that the anti-theft alarm system is not armed or triggered.

 

Note:

If the programming mode ends with no new remote transmitters programmed, remote transmitters originally programmed are retained by the GEM.

 

Note:

After the first remote transmitter has been successfully programmed all the previously stored remote transmitters will be erased.

 

Note:

The GEM will exit programming mode automatically if four remote transmitters have been programmed or if no new remote transmitter has been programmed within the 15 second programming mode.

 

1. Close all the vehicle doors.

 

2. Note:

Make sure the door lock cylinder is held in the unlock position for more than 0.5 seconds.

 

Insert the key into the driver door lock cylinder and turn the key from the rest position to the unlock position three times within five seconds.

 

3. The door lock light emitting diodes (LED)s will illuminate for 15 seconds during the remote transmitter programming mode, allowing the remote transmitter to be programmed.

 

4. Remove the key from the driver door lock cylinder and aim the remote transmitter at the interior rear view mirror.

 

5. Press and hold the LOCK button on the remote transmitter.

 

6. While holding the LOCK button down, press the UNLOCK button three times on the remote transmitter.

 

7. Release both buttons simultaneously.

 

8. Make sure the door lock LEDs flash five times, confirming that the remote transmitter has been programmed.

 

9. After a remote transmitter has been successfully programmed, the GEM will reset the programming mode, allowing a further 15 seconds to program the next remote transmitter.

 

10. To program additional remote transmitters, repeat steps 4 to 8.

 

11. Make sure that all the doors lock and unlock, confirming that the GEM is no longer in programming mode.

 

12. Test all the programmed remote transmitters, by activating and deactivating the locking and unlocking functions.

Now come on VR6 i just love the cleavage but where did you get it did you have silicone's :D

hi all

 

After spending all that time poncing around fixing my remote locking its knackered again.

 

Do you reckon the cold weather could have something to do with it?

I've just recently had the same problem. I am used to reprogramming after installing new batteries; but after about 2 days the remote no longer works and I have to reporgramme, without inserting new batteries in the key fob.

 

It then works for about 2 days and then loses the remote again, until I reprogramme. If I didn't know any better I'd say there is a seperate battery in the car (not vehicle battery) that holds the remote code in and it keeps losing.

 

Equally this has only happened since this very cold weather.

 

Any ideas out there ?

 

PS I know more about reprogramming the alarm tham my local Ford main dealer, whos answer was '....buy a new remote......' Yeah right !!
