Since removing my battery to fix my head my windows go all the way up with one touch of the window button. I don't think that they did before, and I would rather they didn't as I have young kids.

Is it possible to program the buttons for one-touch down, but not one-touch up?

Yep, need something to put some voltage across my temples as part of my ECT...

No, my timing belt snapped and I got 8 bent valves and 8 popped lifters, but all better now.

Quite straight forward really, my 106k mile TDi engine's timing belt snapped under load at 60mph.

I had only had the car a few months and had no service history as it was a repossession. I was going to do a major service, including belt, just as soon as the weather got better.

On examining the belt it was well worn as the semi-circular teeth were worn flat on the tops, and the belt & rollers had a date coding that suggested it was the original belt and rollers had not been changed at 60k.

So instead of an hour and a half changing the belt (because I was waiting for warmer weather) I ended up spend a very unpleasant few hours stripping the engine and a few more putting it back together again in the January weather.

i know this is a big worry, but just try this,

1) wind window all the way down.

2) set the window going up on auto.

3) while the window is going up, try to stop it with your hands.

4) be careful not to get them trapped!

Results,

the window might stop, and wind itself down again.

OR it will carry on going until you either blow the fuse, motor, wiring, or get your hand trapped!

be careful,

tell us the results.

On mine it's either one touch up or down or if you click the button a couple of times its hold to operate in either direction, mine also stop and reverse if there is an obstruction! where as on my Golf it's hold to operate in both directions full time

mine is like a two stage switch in both directions.

push it down one notch, to wind down 'manually'

push it down two notches, to wind down all the way 'auto'

same applies for going up,

pull up one notch, to wind up 'manually'

pull up two notches, to wind up in 'auto'

- but your switch may be different - in which case its based on how long you hold the button down...

Mine has the same two stage switching too!

I tried stopping the 'auto window up' with a banana, it cut it in half, then I tried an apple and it split the skin but then reversed all the way down, without going any further......hope this helps :D .........i must get a life !! :(

I have a few strawberry's, a couple of oranges and a pineapple in the fridge, if I pop round any chance you could slice them? what with your apple and bannana we could make a decent fruit salad :(

The design behind this is an apple is rather like the shape of your hand and hands can get caught in windows, so they are designed not to cut hand or apple sized objects.

If you are sticking banana sized bits of your body in electric windows you deserve what you get :D

very true.

the way the window works is - how much resistance the motor gets, a banana dose not provide enough resistance for it to trigger 'wind down' but an apple has,

there

All models from 2000 onwards have heated washer jets they are linked in with the Quickclear front screen, also one touch windows on drivers side! with Bounce back sensors according to the spec sheet
