wjfe Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 Hi I've got a 1999 sharan 1.9tdi diesel (90bhp) (Bought it last week) with a replacement engine, (i was buying it before the previous engine blew up). The engine seems noisy when I accelerate, almost like the diesels of old. But when the car is driving normally you can hardly hear the engine. I first thought the exhaust hadn Quote
Masked Marauder Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 When you start it from cold, o you have to crank it for a short while or just turn the key and it goes? If you have to crank it then it could be the glow plugs have failed. Quote
wjfe Posted February 22, 2005 Author Report Posted February 22, 2005 No, The car starts very well, Glow plug light goes out and it fire up practically straight away. Quote
seatkid Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 Is there a problem with the engine, or am I being picky? You're being picky..... :) It depends on what your used to...... New exhausts are noisy for a while..... TDi engines can be noisy, depends on individual installation, some are quieter than others. Check the engine mounts and look for loose or missing bits (are all exhaust mounts fitted - properly?) Turn up the radio  Quote
andymet Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 Hi there, Could be worth checking the injection timing, just one tooth out will give a very noisy engine on acceleration. Hope this helps Quote
Guest MATT Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 could it have anything to do with the turbo?- waste gate? but it could well be the timing, as i have seen programs on TV (deals on wheels) where he was talking about timing, and the effects, although i have not experienced this myself.
