Hi

 

I've got a 1999 sharan 1.9tdi diesel (90bhp) (Bought it last week) with a replacement engine, (i was buying it before the previous engine blew up).

 

The engine seems noisy when I accelerate, almost like the diesels of old. But when the car is driving normally you can hardly hear the engine.

When you start it from cold, o you have to crank it for a short while or just turn the key and it goes?

 

If you have to crank it then it could be the glow plugs have failed.

You're being picky..... :)

 

It depends on what your used to......

 

New exhausts are noisy for a while.....

 

TDi engines can be noisy, depends on individual installation, some are quieter than others. Check the engine mounts and look for loose or missing bits (are all exhaust mounts fitted - properly?)

 

Turn up the radio :blink:

Hi there, Could be worth checking the injection timing, just one tooth out will give a very noisy engine on acceleration. Hope this helps

could it have anything to do with the turbo?- waste gate?

 

but it could well be the timing, as i have seen programs on TV (deals on wheels) where he was talking about timing, and the effects, although i have not experienced this myself.
