Guest j_mchattie Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Is there some other way of testing a car battery (other than 'yes it will start my car' or 'no it wont') ? My battery struggles in this cold weather to turn the engine over. It sometimes grinds the engine over, but doesn't have enough left to fire the injectors, and the engine doesnt start. 2nd flick and the engine wont even turn. Can i get it tested? ive heard something about a flash test that will give a definite 'knackered' or 'not knackered'. There is no date on the battery, but i know it is definitely 2 years old+. Ive charged it before a few times - and its ok when its warm - its just the cold. I was looking at a 600amp 'Varta Blue' battery, or even their silver range - are Varta a decent brand to go for? Thanks James Quote
seatkid Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Any tyre/battery/motor factor place that sells batteries can test your battery. They have a wonderful device that looks like a thick bar with 2 handles that they whack across your battery, and it instantly tells them if its man enough for the job..... But from what you describe, its pretty conclusive its knackered. Just make sure you get the correct size and I recommend a main stream brand - look for a three or four year warranty  I recommend EXIDE batteries. I also always go for the largest size that fits in the battery tray ....Fit and forget :D look at this Battery size selector from exide Shop around by telephone, I got my Exide Utra battery from ATS - they price match.....and guaranteed to be fresh...Tip: avoid those motorist discount stores - the batteries you get sold might have been stored a long time....check the manufacture date on the battery is less than 3 months old.... Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I just bought an 'El Massiveo Im not messing around' battery. I went to halfords and got it tested. It wouldn't take a charge, and only held 240Amps. So i bought a 610 Amp calcium 4 year guarantee jobba. Thanks Quote
