Hi,

I am purchasing a 2002 Galaxy 2.3 Ghia, which has the Sat Nav and the VHS Multimedia system as well. The dealer advertised the car as supposedly having a CD Autochanger - however, as I suspected it doesn't have it - but I am trying to get them to fit one at no charge to me as it was advertised as having it.

However, they are saying that the Sat Nav unit doesn't have a CD Changer socket on the back of it. I have said I find this hard to believe as it has a CD Changer button on the front of it and the manual describes how to operate it if it is fitted. I understand that normally the CD Changer would be placed where the VHS player is situated in the rear, but I'm assuming that as long as a suitable space can be found somewhere in the car (i.e. under the passenger seat) that it would still be OK to have one fitted.

Would the ford dealer be correct? Would some models of the Sat Nav have the socket removed, despite the fact it still has a CD Changer button on the front of it?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I recently acquired a Nov 2001 V6 with Sat Nav and VHS MM. It also has a 6xCD autochanger (alpine), under the drivers seat.

So yes, you can have a CD player, at least you can if your sat nav is the same as mine (Radio Navigation System version 1 I think)

Oddly the button on the front of the Sat Nav unit which says CD controller (I think) is not the CD controller - that simply switches the display from night to day settings. You access the CD by pressing the audio button and then selecting CD as an option on the left column (below TP1 and TP2 I think).

Out of interest how much have you been quoted to have yours fitted?

Hi Feanor,

Thanks for your reply.

The Ford garage ("CD Bramell" in St. Albans) have arranged for a local audio 'expert' guy to come and have a look at the car and try to fit an aftermarket solution.

An engineer at the Ford garage apparently looked at the back of the Sat Nav unit and said he couldn't see an appropraite CD Changer socket. So this audio expert guy says he can fit a Kenwood 6-CD Autochanger with FM Modulator which allows you to listen to CDs through an FM channel - this unit comes with a small LCD screen and remote control. He has quoted

My Alpine unit is a CHM S620 6 CD changer. Mine did not work when I bought the car. It has been fixed by replacing the "interface board". It is described (on the unit they removed) as an interface from a Scala Head unit to a an Alpine CHM-S611/620. They charged me

Hi,

Have just bought 2.8 Ghia (02) with Sat Nav and VHS multimedia fitted. Am also on the look out for an auto changer. My dealer says he has tracked down a Ford Auto changer for it, but cannot find the cables. Any clues anybody. Its mad that you spend all this money on a car with state of the art equipment, but have problems trying to play CD's.

Does anyone know whether you can have the sound from the VHS multi media system playing through the speakers or do I have to look at my kids all day with the headphones on?

Regards

Yes, but you need an adaptor plugged into the back of the satnav system and a linking cable from the VHS output to the adapter.

There are at least 2 posts somewhere on this site detailing what has to be done; I think Jakey247 is the acknowledged expert on this.
