Marky Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Hi all, The Gal is going back into the dealers on Thursday for a second setof drop links in three months (!) and I've asked them to check out the gear change(again) as it seems as though 1st to 2nd then 2nd to 3rd is VERY 'notchy', especially when cold but not great when warm. If you are driving it with a bit of gusto it is even worse to the point of double clutching!! The dealer had a look at it the last time it went in and came back with the usual 'can't find anything wrong with it' then told me that I should be waiting for the rev's to drop down to idle speed before engaging the next gear...I just laughed at him and walked away (it was late and I had to get home!) So..has anyone else had any problems with the six speed manual box or could it be a clutch issue?? Any comments/advice gratefully received (as always) so I am armed with info before it goes back in. Cheers, Mark. Quote
Marky Posted February 21, 2005 Author Report Posted February 21, 2005 Apologies...did a search AFTER I posted...nice to know I'm not the only onewith this problem...!! I'll still hassle the dealer though ;) Mark Quote
IDH Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 Hi, I have just booked my '04 Galaxy 2.3 (5 speed box)for an assesment on the Gearbox for this week, Same problem, clunky, squeaky and overall a very poor gearchange - i do find it is worse when its cold!! The annoying thing is that i part exchanged a 51 plate same model and didnt have any problems at all!! Also run a '99 mondeo which is a currently a pleasure to drive compared to the galaxy....!! Marky Posted March 7, 2005 Author Report Posted March 7, 2005 Dealer technician (haha) commented on the smoothness of the gearboxand thought I was lucky to have a good one! He couldn't hear any knocking from the fornt suspension (again) I will be taking him out in it this week to pointout the noises/roughness of the box as I told him he must have been drivinglike his great granny !! Cheers, Mark.Hi Mark,Any update on your 'notchy Gearchange'?Mine's 'clonky' up through first and second especially when cold but also when warm. I sometimes get a scrunch going up into third but not down! I also get a 'clicking' sound and movement which is transmitted back through the gear lever when driving at approx. 15-20mph in second or third then accelerating and letting off. I suspected the gearchange cable mechanism but this was checked at last service. The annoying thing is that the car only has 25k but i'm the second owner. I read that the box is weak. Maybe I just need to get out (of the car) more <_< Regards,J. Quote
Guest stawarz Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Hi Mark! Any joy in convincing the monkey at the Dealer on the drop-link? When the offside one went the best way I found to convince the Ford technician was to tell him to grab hold of the link and give it a hard tug. If there's any play then it needs replacing.
