my dad who died recently owns a mondeo mk1 96 p reg.

its been sitting on his driveway for a couple of months because he was too ill to drive it , today i tried to start it as it needs to be sold but the battery was totally dead.

i used another car to jump start it from and it started ok but the horn continually sounds and the indicators flash , this is obviously the alram , so i pressed the button on the key(there are 2 buttons) but it turns out the battery in that is also dead.

is there any way of turning the alarm off without the remote button on the key

also , the key is held together with tape as the bit on the back no longer clips in to hold the battery in , so i need to get a new key anyway.

i've seen some on ebay , would i be able to just buy another key and program it from the red key or do i need to buy a blank and get it cut.

thanks

simon

The indicators dont flash with the alarm - not on UK models as far as im aware. The site i got this from is below, and also details how to reprogram the key fob:

Just for info, the alarm horn is in the boot on the left hand side, just under floor level.

Sorry to hear of your loss

The alarm can be switched off by unlocking the front doors with the key

to program a new remote

Unlock the car

turn the ignition switch to position 1, after a while the LED indicator on the dash should light up?

now quickly turn off the ignition and remove the key the LED indicator on the dash should stay on

aim the transmitter key at the receiver above the front doors and press either one of the two buttons on the remote and HOLD IT the LED on the remote should stay lit, now press the other button 3 to 5 times, let go of both buttons while still aiming at the receiver and, if this has worked the led on the dash and on the remote should flash 5 times?

to add more remotes do it all again apart from the part where you mess with the ignition switch  to exit programming just turn on the ignition and the new remotes should be in the system and working?

good luck

so am i right in thinking i can buy any key from ebay with the same remote and just reprogram it.

also , will the newer 3 button remote work with this car

Posted
Buy from eBay if you want; doubt that 3-button key will work as the alarm system itself has probably been upgraded for later models.

The 3 button remote replaces the older 2 button type but there are 2 types, ask at dealer before buying one.
