dipsomaniac Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Will hopefully be replacing all 6 HT leads tomorrow. Can anyone confirm whether I will need special tool to remove/fit leads. VW wanted Quote
Masked Marauder Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 You don't have one clipped to the bonnet stay? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 On the MK1 12V yes you will need a plug lead tool, these are available from most good dealers! give me a while and I will find you the VW part number, you can get get a nice stainless steel one from snap on :) not cheap but built to last :) Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 The part number is t10029. the tool is made by hazet IIRC Quote
dipsomaniac Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I haven't found one attached to the bonnet stay - it looks like I will have to buy one. I am showing my ignorance now as I am assuming that my 1998 mk1 V6 Galaxy is the 12V model and I need the plug tool? Can you confirm VR6? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 YEP! you will need a plug lead tool and knowing VW dealers they wont have it in stock! where abouts are you? Quote
dipsomaniac Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 Gloucester. Local VW can't get one until Monday. I am reluctant to use Snap-on as I will not use it enough to justify the cost. Is the tool only needed to remove the leads? If so, does it matter if I damage them taking them off if I am replacing them with new ones? Or does the cap remain on top of the plug? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Gloucester :) damn wrong end of the M5! it doesnt matter if you damage the old leads removing them without the tool but it may a big problem if the cap stays on the plug when the lead snaps :) there is/was a web site with instructions on how to make your own tool with a section of copper pipe! look at the new leads, on the cap there should be two locating tangs? these are used to hold the caps with when you fit or remove the leads see if you can make your own tool?
