Guest greenfly Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 99 110 Tdi won't start - this follows a few weeks of intermittent slow starting (lots of turns before it started) - symptoms now are very slow starter for a couple of seconds only, various lights on the dash flash on, 5 bleeps, and most bizarre, the radio turns on (regardless of whether it was off prior to start) on AM at a very loud volume - and the engine of course doesn't fire other posts on this (great) site suggest crankshaft sensor failure, though I havent seen any that mention the radio issue! any advice appreciated Quote
seatkid Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 5 bleeps is saying crankshaft sensor open circuit. Radio coming on as described I think indicates a master reset being sent on the CANBUS. They may indicate an ECU problem. I would disconnect the battery for ten minutes...... Quote
johnb80 Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Are you sure your battery is OK? it's possible that it can't supply the cranking amps required, the voltage falls and that resets everything. The other possibility is that the starter motor has had it and is dragging too much current. Get your battery charges and try and start it with a GOOD set of jump leads attached to another vehicle, dont try it with the 99p jump leads from the local garage, you need some very heavy duty ones. Guest greenfly Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 thanks for the pointers - I'll try a few checks and let you know..... Quote

Guest greenfly Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Tried a 10 min battery disconnect, no change - checked the crank sensor connections and again no change - so dusted down the battery charger and gave it a whirl for a couple of hours - hey presto, no bleeps, a turning starter and a running engine - so it seems as though the simple advice re the battery was spot on - or I hope so at any rate - I'll let you know if there's any change (having checked/changed the battery) Anyway, great site, way better than the Ford folks (I called the "premium rate" Ford tech line and frankly I wonder if they actually knew they sell the Galaxy) Quote
