Global closure of all windows can be achieved by turning the key manually in the door lock on the newer Galaxys, as most of us know. However, why can't it be achieved by pressing the key fob remotely, surely this was the way it was designed originally. My question is, can it be done by reprogramming it somehow, or anyone know of a sneak way around the system to get the remote fob to work for closing all the windows if open ??? Is it maybe a Ford safety issue with kids hanging out of the windows whilst remotely closing them ?

I suppose it could wear the remote fob battery down pretty quickly if it was allowed... though I retrofitted remote opening (aftermarket kit) to my last Gal and as the kit connected to the key circuit, I was able to global open/ close the windows.

It was very useful in hot weather because you could open the windows when walking towards the car from about 50 yards away.

Same here fitted an after market alarm that controls the locks and global closure system, now I can open the windows and sun roof from a distance  make big difference in the summer as you can let out the hot air before you get near the car

Our old '97 Ghia model had remote closing via key in lock OR via the remote fob. Does it not feature on current-shape models then? A nice feature although I reckon we used it all of twice last summer when we saw one of the lads had left a back window down in car parks...

The global closing on the Mk2 Galaxy by key fob was disabled by Ford as it was thought to be dangerous. It can be re-enabled by using VAG-COM but I don't know the codes to do it. IIRC there were the codes for a VW car on the VAG-COM website, so the code may be the same.
