dipsomaniac Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Drove car today and felt a juddering under acceleration and a vibration/juddering when stopped in drive. Car seems fine in neutral. Can anyone offer any advise? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Is it an engine judder or a transmision judder? if it's an engine judder I would start by checking the ignition system, the usual suspects! plugs leads and coil pack/s, for a transmision judder check the engine/gearbox mounts, especially the roll restrictor! when mine went it felt like the car was missing all the time while under power but was ok while at rest! dipsomaniac Posted February 14, 2005 Author Report Posted February 14, 2005 Thanks VR6. It is hard to say whether it is an engine or transmission judder. Car is fine when in neutral and when cruising. It only judders when standing still in drive/3/2/1 and when initially accelerating. Where is the roll restrictor? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Roll restrictor is the lower engine gearbox mount, it's mounted between the gearbox and the cross member, best way to check if it's still doing it's job is to pop the bonnet and with the engine running get some one to blip the throttle, if the engine viciously jerks back and forth then its gone! most times it's just the bolt sheared at the gearbox end which can in most case just be replaced if you can get the broken parts out? dipsomaniac Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 Engine wasn't jerking in engine bay. Was about to change (or attempt to change) plugs and leads but car has been very smooth today. So am now totally confused. Any ideas? Or was the last two days a 'bad car day?' Quote
Andrew T Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Is the weather a factor? Old HT leads can start to exhibit problems in the wet, but be OK when its dry. Quote
dipsomaniac Posted February 16, 2005 Author Report Posted February 16, 2005 Am still in shock! HT leads sold singly at Fords - Quote
dipsomaniac Posted February 16, 2005 Author Report Posted February 16, 2005 Have found a rogue spark but it was not where I expected it. Can anyone confirm whether it is likely to be the nearst HT lead which is causing the problem? http://img165.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img165&ima...eadimage1ca.jpg]http://img165.exs.cx/img165/4720/webhtleadimage1ca.th.jpg Quote
