Guest grumpy one Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Anyone heard of any problems with 100,000+ mile Galaxy TDIs. A friend has just told us about a problem with the crankshaft/cambelt pulley spinning off on some high mileage Galaxys, thus destroying the engine.I ned to know any information on this subject as I'm just about to buy a 92,000mile Tdi and I'm worried it'll go bang sooner or later....help.....Jim Quote
Guest EVSS Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 a friend of mine bought a 110,000 mile tdi 1997 vintage and after a few weeks started to become a pain to start, till it finally refused to start. that was the bottom pulley slipping.(knocking the timing out) ford said never had the problem....the guy in the v/w parts dept said they regularly sold them. obviously it didnt destroy his engine, new pulley and belt, we put it down to a lot of stop start motoring. on the other hand i used to service a lot of passats and audi, diesels and they regularly had between 150 and 250 thousand miles, with no major probs. luck of the draw. if your that bothered get the pulley changed and the belt when you buy it , i always change my belts , whenever i buy secondhand. you can never be too careful.
