Guest fgo278 Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Hope someone can offer what I expect will be simple advice. I've just become the proud owner of a Ford Galaxy 1.9tdi Zetec (Auto) which is one year old. When I bought the car the agreement was that the garage would give it a full service prior to my collection. Although you could fit my mechanical knowledge on the back of a postage stamp I had a quick look at the oil level and noticed that the oil looked very black when I was expecting it to look more honey coloured. Since picking it up the car has covered at most 300 miles. I am new to the world of diesels but can't believe that the oil would change colour so quickly. Can anybody offer advice on how I can see whether the service has been completed ie Look for a new looking oil filter (Which incidently I am unable to locate) I guess looking at the air filter / oil filter is the best way but I don't really know where they are located / how you get at them. Dave-G Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 :o The engine oil of a diesel absorbs soot - which is black :o The honey colour would turn black almost as soon as it meets residual oil left in small pockets of the engine. The oil filter is located in front of the engine.below the top cover,to the right of the dipstick, looking rearwards. If you are looking for the usual "cannister" you wont find one, it is in a small alloy housing with a black plastic (16 sided?) cap. The air filter is in the large black box on the left side. seatkid Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Oil is black by the time you drive it out the garage.....don't worry it's normal. Quote
